Apart from Maruti, Tata is also going to release the Nexon CNG — both of these sub-four-meter SUVs are scheduled to be released in CNG format in the coming months. With rising fuel prices and Maruti’s lack of a diesel alternative, the company is concentrating on CNG. Maruti Suzuki is now working on adding models like the Swift and Dzire to its S-CNG lineup. Both of these cars have been spotted on public roads in their CNG form, and are likely to join Maruti’s CNG automobile lineup in the coming weeks.

Vitara Brezza CNG

Maruti is also working on a CNG-powered Vitara Brezza. The tiny SUV is in high demand, with an average of 12k monthly sales. Adding a CNG variant to the current petrol-only option will be a boost to buyers. Specs have now been revealed, albeit there are no spy images. 

Maruti intends to provide CNG as an option on all vehicles sold through their Arena dealership network. CNG powertrains are currently available on cars such as the S-Presso, Alto, WagonR, Celerio, Ertiga, and Eeco. With the addition of the Swift, Dzire, and Vitara Brezza, all Arena models will be able to run on alternative fuel.

CNG Specs

Returning to the future Brezza CNG, it will be powered by the same 1.5-litre K15 normally aspirated petrol engine. However, power output will be slightly lower in the CNG-spec variant, with 91 horsepower at 6000rpm and 122 Nm of peak torque at 4,400rpm. This motor produces 104 horsepower and 138 Nm of peak torque in its normal configuration. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed torque converter.

The decrease in power and torque may appear to be a disappointment to ardent drivers, but it won’t make a significant difference in everyday driving. The CNG unit, on the other hand, will have a higher fuel efficiency rating than its petrol counterpart. Currently, the manual gearbox Vitara Brezza claims a mileage of 17.03 kmpl and the automatic transmission claims a mileage of 18.76 kmpl.

As with other Maruti S-CNG cars, the CNG option in the Vitara Brezza is unlikely to be available in the top-spec ZXI+ trim. The CNG option may not be available even in the ZXI trim. It would most likely be available in LXI and VXI trim levels. However, there is no official evidence to back this up.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza Monthly Sales

With a total of 12,600 units sold last month, the Vitara Brezza was once again the best-selling subcompact SUV in its segment. Early next year, the SUV will also get a big overhaul, which will most likely include a new design and features. 

Tata, in addition to Maruti, is focused on factory-fitted CNG choices. In the following year, Tata expects to introduce CNG versions of the Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, and Nexon. Nexon CNG has already been spotted in Pune, where it is being tested. It poses a new challenge to Maruti Brezza’s hegemony. Nexon recently achieved their greatest monthly sales of over 10,000 units. It’s unclear whether Maruti would debut the Brezza CNG first or Tata will launch the Nexon CNG first.
