Mercedes-Benz has launched the all-new 2021 GLA SUV in India at a starting price of INR 42.10 lakhs for the basic model. The highest model which is the performance-based model AMG GLA 35 4matic is priced at INR 57.3 lakhs.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA was planned to be launched earlier this year but got postponed due to COVID19 preventive lockdowns. The prices of the GLA are set to hike by up to INR 1.5 lakhs starting from July. The GLA AMD is assembled in India and is only the third AMG unit to be assembled in India.

Design:

The 2021 GLA has some prominent changes made to its design layout and doesn’t carry the same design features as its predecessor. It carries the same rugged look perfectly well while also having more smoother and flowing lines. The 2021 GLA is also larger than its predecessor and is even more substantial. It is 104mm taller and also has a 30mm longer wheelbase. The GLA thus has more interior space and better space at the rear when compared to the previous generation.

The AMG model gets some premium features to set it apart from the regular line of models like a Panamericana grille with prominent vertical slats, larger wheels and tailpipes, and a new roof spoiler.

Features:

AS expected from the Mercedes-Benz, the 2021 GLA comes equipped with new features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen MBUX infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, 0.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, powered front seats, 64 colors ambient lighting, a large sunroof and many more. It even comes with a ‘hey Mercedez’ voice prompt.

Engine:

The GLA is available in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol variant has a 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing a horsepower of 163hp and a torque of 250 Nm. It is fitted with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The GLA petrol is available only in a front-wheel-drive layout.

On the other hand, the Diesel variant is powered by a 2.0L 4 cylinder turbocharged engine that produces a horsepower of 190hp and a torque of whooping 400 Nm equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It is available in both FWD(Forward Wheel Drive) and Mercedezs’ 4matic all-wheel-drive layout.

The performance model the AMG GLA 4Matic is equipped with a 2.0Litre 4 cylinder turbo-petrol engine that produces a massive horsepower of 306hp and an impressive 400 Nm of Torque. It is fitted with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and is available in AWD mode.

The GLA comes with an exclusive 8-year warranty on engine and transmission along with a 3-year comprehensive vehicle warranty.

Rivals:

The GLA will compete against the likes of BMW X1, Volvo XC40, mini countryman, and the second-gen Audi Q3 which is set to arrive soon.
