Volkswagen breaks the cover for the facelifted 2021 Polo GTI which will arrive with a revised 2.0L petrol engine, cosmetics, and features update. After the sixth generation Polo received a mid-life update this April, the company has not revealed the GTI version. The new GTI follows the same recipe for performance with changes being made over the standard car for enhanced performance. The company claims that the new model features technologies that are offered in the premium class.

Volkswagen Polo GTI styling and features

On the outside, the 2021 Polo GTi gets a GTI specific honeycomb-patterned bumper and neatly integrated fog lamps on the bumper. The mesh grille with red accents and the IQ Light LED matrix headlights with the full-width light bar highlights the sporty character. The company believes that the new front light bar creates a style connection to the battery-electric ID models from VW. It gets a dual-tone diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheel with upgraded brakes that features red-colored calipers. To better enhance the character of the car it gets a contrasting black roof and ORVMs.

The interior receives more red highlighting on the dashboard surface, stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and gear lever. The updated seats get tartan seat pattern and GTI specific black headlines. It is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit as standard and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity, and an optional 6 speakers Beats audio system.

For the first time, the Polo GTI gets the IQ Drive semi-autonomous driving aid which can control steering, braking, and acceleration of the car. The car also receives the Travel Assist system from Volkswagen which includes adaptive cruise control, side, and rear traffic alert, lane assist, autonomous emergency braking, driver alert system, and more.

What powers the 2021 VW Polo GTI?

The 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI is powered by a 2.0L Turbocharged Petrol engine which churns out a peak power of 204bhp and a peak torque of 320Nm. The car is only offered in a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and there is no news about the manual transmission option. It also comes with 3 driving modes Eco, Normal, and Sport. To improve the performance GTI has undergone a chassis tune, a large stabilizer on the car’s front axle, rigid coupling rods at the front, and the car is 15mm lower than the standard version.

The last generation Polo GTI was sold in India as a CBU import and in limited numbers. Indian market which still receives the last generation Polo is yet to get the updated 6th generation. We don’t see the new 2021 Volkswagen Polo GTI making it to our market anytime soon.
