German carmaker Volkswagen has unveiled the all-new 2021 Tiguan for the Indian market. As the company says, it’s time to skip the boring. Be it the engine, design, features or safety, Tiguan seems to be a complete package. It is set to go on sale soon and might be a befitting rival to cars in its segment. Let’s see what the Tiguan has to offer.
2021 Volkswagen Tiguan: What it has under the hood?
Sharing the engine option with the 7-seater Tiguan Allspace, 2021 VW Tiguan gets a 2.0-litre TSI engine. This engine is capable of producing 190ps of power and a peak torque of 320Nm. The TSI engine will be mated to a 4MOTION, 7-speed DSG, one of the slickest transmissions out there. You will also get paddle shifters for the added thrill.
All-New Tiguan: What’s new with the design?
The basic design is somehow similar to the Tiguan that was on sale before the BS6 emission norms kicked in. But what has changed is the new LED matrix units in the headlights that are now sharper and taper towards the end. The new grille carries chrome accents and yet remains aesthetically calm. The new Tiguan also get the 2-D VW logo right in the middle of the grille keeping things simple yet elegant.
When viewed from the side, you’ll notice the all-new 18-inch alloys that distinguish it from the Tiguan Allspace. Also, the smaller rear overhang due to less seating capacity than the Allspace might help you distinguish it from the 7-seater version. At the rear, the tail lamps are similar to that on Tiguan Allspace, though there is a slight tweak.
Interior and Features
The all-new 2021 Tiguan interior feels similar inside but gets some new elements to refresh the design such as, chrome elements enhancing the premium feel, illuminated gear knob, 30 shades of ambient lights, expansive panoramic sunroof, Vienna leather seats. Volkswagen has thrown out their rotary knobs and buttons for the climate control system and has introduced a touch interface. Feature on the new Tiguan includes 3 zone auto climate control, 8-inch touch infotainment system, Android auto and apple car play, 8 way powered driver seat with memory function.
Safety is not compromised which includes 6 airbags as standard, ABS, ESP, Anti-slip Regulation (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), Hill-start assist and Descent control, tyre pressure monitor, driver alert system, ISOFIX anchors.
How is the 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Priced?
Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to be priced at 26L which could go up to 29L ex-showroom. But the petrol-powered rivals, Hyundai Tuscon tops at 24L and Jeep Compass at 25.3L ex-showroom, both the rivals also get a diesel option which might undercut the Tiguan’s price.
