2022 Mahindra Scorpio to be lighter and safer; new details

2022 Mahindra Scorpio

Mahindra is on a streak of bringing exceptional models to the Indian market. The Thar and XUV700 have been a huge success. Next in line is the upcoming 2022 Mahindra Scorpio. We expect the new Scorpio to be launched by the second half of this year. Furthermore, exciting new details about the upcoming Scorpio were leaked. Keep reading to know more about the 2022 Scorpio.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio: What to expect

Indian automakers are giving utmost priority to driver and passenger safety. In fact, new cars from Tata and Mahindra including XUV 700 got a 5-star GNCAP rating. Mahindra is aiming the same for the upcoming Scorpio. The all-new Scorpio has the exceptional built quality and can easily score a 4-star safety rating. However, the overall product cost will increase if Mahindra is going for a 5-star GNCAP safety rating.

The ongoing pandemic gave the engineers at Mahindra some extra time to work out the details. In fact, the engineers did a great job in reducing 50 kilograms from the car. We expect the upcoming version to be 100-150kg lighter than the outgoing variant. Moreover, the new-gen Scorpio will be equipped with hydraulically assisted steering making it further lighter than the existing variant.

Under the hood, the Scorpio might come with 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The diesel engine will be offered in two different tunes – 130bhp/300Nm & 155bhp/360Nm. Moreover, a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will be provided as transmission options. The high-end variants will come with a 4×4 drivetrain including terrain modes & drive modes.

Mahindra will provide the same 3-D Sony audio setup seen in Thar. Moreover, the next-gen Scorpio might come with up to 6 or 8 speakers. Also, the SUV will probably get Tan and Burgundy leather-based dual-tone seats, which are different and contrasting colour combinations. There can be a rotary knob for drive mode selection.
