The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has been the leader in the MPV segment for a long time. But newly launched Kia Carens is here to steal that position. In just a month and a half since the launch, Carens has been doing well in terms of sales. In a precautionary way, Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2022 Ertiga facelift on April 15th. Ahead of the launch, Maruti has released a video teaser for the Ertiga. But interested customers can pre-book the 7-seater from today for a token amount of Rs. 11,000/-.
Maruti has updated the engine, refreshed the design and improved cosmetics & features in the car. So what do we know so far about the 2022 Maruti Ertiga?
2022 Maruti Ertiga Facelift: Updated Engine
The biggest update for 2022 Ertiga is under the hood. It will now feature the next generation of the K-Series engine. The new 1.5-litre K15C unit will produce 10 extra horses meaning it now makes 115 hp. It will also get Maruti’s mild-hybrid system aimed to improve efficiency.
As for the transmission, the standard 5-speed manual gearbox will continue. But Maruti has decided to ditch the age-old 4-speed torque converter to introduce the new 6-speed automatic transmission. Another addition is that Maruti will introduce paddle shifters for the automatic version. Just like the current Ertiga, the facelift will also get a CNG version in both VXI and ZXI trims.
Ertiga design updates
From what we can make of the spy shots and the teaser no major design changes are expected. The front end is renewed with a new bumper design, grille design and sharp looking dual-barrel projector headlights. It will have the same proportions as the ongoing model.
On the inside, Maruti is expected to improve the upholstery. It will also feature the new 7-inch touchscreen system from 2022 Baleno with SmartPlay Pro. It gets features such as the engine start/stop button, keyless entry, one-touch tumble second-row seats, and more. Along with this, the new 2022 Ertiga will also get a wireless smartphone charger, paddle shifters, Suzuki Connect and a new automatic AC System.
Pricing and rivals
The outgoing Ertiga price starts from Rs. 8.12 lakh and goes up to Rs. 10.85 lakh. The price for the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga could be slightly more than this. It will take on Kia Carens, Mahindra Marazzo, Toyota Innova Crysta, and Renault Triber.
Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director of Marketing and Sales MSIL mentioned that “With over 7.5 lakh delighted customers, the Ertiga has been a game-changer in India’s MPV market. We are pleased to introduce the next-gen Ertiga that redefines the style, space, technology, safety, comfort and convenience of travelling together. The next-generation Ertiga will have thoughtful new-age features, an upgraded powertrain and advanced 6-speed automatic transmission.”
