MG will sell the new ZS EV in 4 different colour schemes: Ferris White, Sable Black, Ashen Silver, and Currant Red. The Copenhagen Blue in the previous model is no longer available.

Battery Pack and Performance

The improved battery pack and the range are some of the biggest updates MG has given to the new ZS. It now gets the 50.3 kWh battery pack instead of the 44.5 kWh battery in the previous model. As a result, the range has been increased from 419 km to 461 km.

The same single motor set up in the previous-gen ZS is carried forward. It develops 176 hp and 280 Nm of torque. This means that the new ZS has 33 hp more power but 73 Nm of torque lesser than the predecessor. MG claims a time of 8.5 seconds for the ZS to go from 0-100 kmph. It also gets 3 different driving modes: Eco, Sport & Normal.

MG ZS EV Design

The main update on the outside is in the front of the car. MG has used a new closed grille in the front which does not look like the Astor anymore. The charging port is placed on the front grille right next to their logo. The new LED headlights now get a single DRL instead of 2. The entire bumper has been redesigned and looks completely different. The 17-inch alloy wheels get a new design. However, the rear end of the car remains almost the same.

The interiors are also updated and it looks a lot similar to the Astor SUV. It now has the 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch fully digital driver display replacing the analogue meters. Premium leather is used for upholstery. The leather is layered on the dashboard, door trim, door armrest, centre console and steering wheel.

Tech & Features

The features of the ZS EV goes like this: rain sensing wiper, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, start/stop button, cruise control, Kinetic energy recovery system, auto headlights and more.

As for the safety features, we were hoping to see the Advanced Drive Assistance System (ADAS) in the ZS but MG decided not to provide it. But they don’t disappoint you, the MG is equipped with 3 point seatbelt for all passengers, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electric parking brake with auto hold, hill ascent/descent control, 360-degree camera with rear parking sensors, ESC, tyre pressure monitor and more.

Competition

The MG ZS EV is positioned in the electric compact SUV segment against the Hyundai Kona and the Tata Nexon EV. Tata Nexon EV takes the lead in terms of overall sales. But the MGs attractive new SUV really could change the stats.
