We recently found out that Honda scrapped the plans for a new Compact SUV and instead is working on a new Midsize SUV for India. As a result of this, we need to wait an extra year (2023) for the carmaker to get their first SUV after a long time.
The good news is that Honda is prepared to launch the facelifted version of the new Amaze in August 2021. The Honda Amaze was introduced in 2013 and is currently in its second generation avatar which was updated in 2018.
Amaze has been one of Honda’s most successful offerings in India. It is only manufactured in India and imported to few other markets across the world.
Here are the five things we know about the upcoming Honda Amaze
What powers the Honda Amaze 2021?
We expect no changes to the mechanicals of the car, it will be offered in the same 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel motors. The naturally aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine makes a total power of 90bhp and 110Nm of torque. Unlike the petrol engine, the i-DTEC diesel engine is a turbocharged motor making 100bhp and 200 nm of torque.
Both these engines are offered in a standard 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT automatic transmission. But the diesel CVT is tuned differently and makes 80bhp and 160 Nm of torque.
Exterior design and styling
As 2021 Amaze is going under a mid-cycle update, we can not expect major changes to its overall design. It employs a new LED headlight instead of halogens used in the ongoing Amaze. A reworked front grille, bumpers and a new alloy wheel design. They are also introducing new paint shades for the exterior.
Interior updates
The interior would get upholstery updates like the addition of new elements and materials to the dashboard and other parts of the interior. This time the lower trims are also expected to get few standard fitments that are not available in the current Amaze. The biggest update could be the addition of a sunroof to the sedan, which puts it behind its rivals but there is still no confirmation on this.
Features
Honda offers a decent amount of feature lists with the Amaze and we expect them to continue the same. The ongoing Amaze is equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a multi-function steering wheel, a multi-information display (MID), automatic climate control, Cruise Control, rear parking camera with guidelines, smart entry and more.
Pricing and Competitors
The Amaze 2021 is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current model. The ongoing Amaze starts at ₹6.22 lakh and goes up to ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top trim. The midsize sedan goes against the Hyundai Aura, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor and Ford Aspire.
We don’t expect any new cars from Honda at the moment. All though there are reports that the company is planning to introduce the facelifted Brio and a mild hybrid version of the city by the end of this year. But there is no official comment by Honda on this matter.
