Volkswagen has finally unveiled the new Taigun in India after a long wait. The new SUV is built on the MQB A0 IN platform, which is part of the India 2.0 project. Curcuma Yellow, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Reflex Silver, and Carbon Steel Grey are among the vehicle’s five vivid body colours. What’s so great about it?
The car boasts a 95 percent level of localisation, resulting in a vehicle that is competitively priced in its segment. The SUV is available in two trim levels: Dynamic Line and Performance Line. Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), up to six airbags, multi-collision brakes, three rear headrests, rearview camera, three-point seat belts, ISOFIX, adjustable headrest for all, and tyre pressure deflation warning system are among the vehicle’s many safety features.
What is the best option to purchase?
The Highline model is a fantastic option to explore for buyers interested in the 1.0-litre TSI engine. Customers who want a feature-rich variation should choose the Topline option. For all the petrol heads Performance Line suits the best: the GT Line has a manual transmission option, while the GT Plus has a DSG option.
Features
Volkswagen has crammed a lot of goodies into the Taigun. It gets a fully digital driver’s display, or the driver’s cockpit, as VW puts it. Features like a large touchscreen screen, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay are all present and correct. It has wireless charging, a sunroof, and ventilated seats and paddle shifters which are India’s new favorite features. In the Taigun, you’ll also notice a tinge of crimson that serves as ambient lighting.
Design
The VW Taigun has a strong and powerful appearance. With the sculpted bonnet and grille, the front appears fairly intimidating. It has a contemporary, elegant design thanks to the all-LED lighting setup. Volkswagen has expertly blended the dynamic appearance with the company’s traditional elegant and modest appeal. The LED lights that run the length of the tailgate are also a visual delight.
Specs
The Taigun is sold with only two petrol engine options
1.0-litre TSI — 114bhp between 5,000 and 5,500rpm and 178Nm between 1,750 and 4,500rpm. Includes a six-speed MT and a six-speed AT.
1.5-litre TSI EVO — 148bhp between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm, 250Nm torque between 1,600 and 3,500 rpm. Includes a six-speed MT and a seven-speed DSG.
Safety
The Taigun has six airbags, ABS, and EBD for safety, however, the six airbag setup is only available in the highest models. Hill assist, ESC, multi-collision brakes, and traction control are among the technological features included.
What isn’t so great?
Only two version options are available for the GT model. Although this reduces confusion, more variant options would have provided clients with more options. Furthermore, the top-of-the-line GT Plus model is only available with an automatic transmission. The SUV is now offered at an initial price that will be changed at a later date.
Rivals
In the compact SUV sector, the Taigun will be a rival. This means the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and the all-new MG Astor will all be targeted. Some of these rivals do include desirable features such as a panoramic sunroof, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and ADAS.
