The Indian government has taken steps toward making cars safer. As of the latest news, all cars must have at least six airbags mandatory in the country from October 1, 2022. This article shows a list of brands of affordable cars with 6 airbags as a safety feature.
Maruti Suzuki
Car models produced by Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki, usually have a standard number of two airbags in front and other safety features to ensure protection. The latest offering by Maruti is the new Baleno. It is said to have 6 airbags, both side and curtain airbags for both the top two Zeta & Alpha variants. The Baleno is also a very affordable car with prices starting from Rs. 8.09 lakh.
Honda
The only car in India from Honda’s side that offers six airbags is the new 5th generation Honda City. The new Honda City’s VX variant is offered with 6 airbags and it is starting from a price of Rs. 12.62 lakh onwards. The City features 6 airbags, i.e dual front, front side and side curtains airbags, at an affordable starting rate.
Skoda
All the new models of the automotive company, Skoda are now expected to come with 6 airbags. The latest models of Skoda with 6 airbags are the Slavia and the Kushaq. The most affordable Skoda with 6 airbags is the Style variant of the Slavia starting at a price of Rs. 13.59 lakh.
Tata Motors
One can expect the safest cars from Tata Motors India as the company has a really good reputation. Tata also scored very well in Global NCAP crash tests, deeming it very safe. The latest and most affordable car from the brand is the XZ variant of the Tata Harrier. It starts at a price of Rs. 18.35 lakh. The other variants of the Harrier also have 6 airbags, but the higher the variant the higher the price.
Hyundai
Hyundai is a very huge and popular automaker and they have a number of models that offer six airbags at an affordable price. Models like the Creta, Venue, Verna and i20 do offer 6 airbags. The most affordable one is the Asta (O) variant of the i20 with a starting price of only Rs. 9.41 lakh. The SX (O) variant of the Venue starts at Rs. 10.85 lakh which is also very affordable for a Hyundai model. The prices of the Hyundai Creta and Verna start at Rs. 16.15 lakh and Rs. 14.7 lakh for its top-end SX (O) variants. These models get six airbags, in the front and side curtains as well, and they are cheaper in comparison to other models with 6 airbags and other safety features.
Toyota
When Maruti and Toyota came together, they created an engineered version of the Baleno, and it was termed Toyota Glanza. This model sports 6 airbags in its top two variants and it is cheaper than you think it is. The least expensive one is the G variant of the Glanza which starts at a price of Rs. 8.24 lakh. The V variant also provides 6 airbags at a starting price of Rs. 9.19 lakh. One of its discontinued cars, i.e the Yaris also had more than 6 airbags in a couple of its variants.
Mahindra
In recent years, the safety features and the ratings that Mahindra scores in the Global NCAP ratings are quite high. Mahindra’s subcompact SUV, the XUV300 has a top-spec W8 (O) variant which is one of the most affordable SUVs with six airbags. It starts at a price of Rs. 10.96 lakh and is one of the top trims. Mahindra’s XUV700 has around 7 airbags and also safety features including the ADAS technology. The AX trim of the XUV700 which has said features starts at Rs. 16.05 lakh.
Kia
Kia is staying up to date with the trends, and their models are coming equipped with six airbags. The Sonet and the Seltos offer some variants with this feature. The top-end GTX+ variants of the Sonet and Seltos starts at Rs. 11.99 lakh and Rs. 16.39 lakh respectively. All the variants of the newly released Kia Carens MPV now offer standard 6 airbags at an affordable price of Rs. 8.99 lakh.
Volkswagen
Currently, in the market, the only Volkswagen car model to offer six airbags at an affordable rate is the Taigun. The model starts at Rs. 14.57 lakh and is the most budget-friendly car available in the market as of now. Volkswagen is also planning to launch its Virtus sedan this May, and its higher variants are likely to have six airbags as well.
MG Motors India
MG Motors India is a class apart and most of its models only offer six airbags. Cars such as Hector, Hector Plus and Astor all come with six airbags for their top-spec trims. They also come with additional safety features and ADAS. The most affordable MG is the Astor Sharp trim, starting at a price of Rs. 13.98 lakh.
