Mileage has been one of the biggest factors behind choosing a car in India. For some buyers, efficiency is more important than the price of the car, this is the reason why many go for diesel-powered cars. But with advancement in technology, the gap is getting closer where petrol cars have similar fuel efficiency compared to their diesel counterparts. With the petrol cars costing less than diesel cars and the fuel prices being pretty close, we could see a significant shift from diesel to petrol vehicles quite soon. So, here is a list of the 5 best mileage petrol cars.
Maruti Suzuki Dzire
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire tops the list with an ARAI claimed mileage of 24.12kmpl for the AMT variant and 23.23kmpl for the manual transmission (MT) variant. The car has had some design changes and with few added features when the facelift was released last year. Maruti had also made some changes under the hood, instead of the K12N engine, they introduced the 1.2L K12M engine which slightly increased both performance and mileage of the car. You will have to pay Rs. 5.98L to Rs. 9.03L for the Dzire.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno / Toyota Glanza
The Maruti Suzuki designed Baleno or the rebadged Toyota Glanza in the mild-hybrid avatar (MT) takes the second spot with an ARAI claimed mileage of 23.87kmpl. The car is equipped with a 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol engine assisted with mild-hybrid technology makes a total of 90bhp and 113nm of torque. The transmission options are 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is priced aggressively between Rs.5.98L to 9.30L ex-showroom. Whereas the Toyota Glanza with some upholstery and other upgrades received from Toyota is priced between 7.18L to 9.10L ex-showroom. But the mild-hybrid versions of both these cars have similar pricing.
Maruti Swift AMT
Another Maruti Suzuki car in the list to take 3rd place in the list. The recently facelifted Swift gets the K12M engine which is a 1.2L dual jet seen in the Maruti Dzire with a start/stop button. The hatchback has a slightly lower mileage figure compared to its sedan version because of the mild hybrid treatment the Dzire gets. But still, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has an ARAI claimed mileage of 23.76 for AMT and 23.20kmpl for the manual transmission.
Maruti Suzuki Alto
The Maruti Suzuki Alto is one of the best selling cars in India. The Alto feels basic and has a cramped cabin but the low price, minimal maintenance and high efficiency make it a popular choice among buyers. The car is currently priced at Rs.2.99L and goes up to Rs.4.61L (both ex-showroom). The car is powered by a small 800cc petrol engine which makes 48bhp and has an ARAI claimed efficiency of 22.05kmpl. The Alto is also offered in a CNG variant which makes a stunning mileage of 31.59 km/kg of gas.
Surprisingly the only car on the list which is not in the Maruti Suzuki lineup is the Renault Kwid and it takes the 5th spot. The alto rival Kwid is offered in 800cc and 1.0L engine capacity, the 800cc engine is only offered in manual transmission and claims an efficiency of 20.71kmpl. The 1.0L engine is offered in both manual and automatic transmission options, the MT has an ARAI claimed mileage of 21.74kmpl and the AMT variant stand up with an ARAI certified mileage of 22kmpl.
