The teaser for the upcoming BMW flagship electric sedan, i7 confirmed its debut on the 20th of April this year. It is said to be held at the 2022 Beijing Auto Show. This sedan will be launched along with the entire range of the next-generation 7 Series, with the most powerful version. After launch, the i7 sedan will be BMW’s first pure-electric 7 Series and will compete against the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan.
BMW i7: Design and Exterior
The front of the BMW i7 sports super sleek headlights, as well as a really large twin-kidney front grille with an illuminated frame. The inspiration for the design of the BMW i7 was taken from the XM hybrid concept. Some features of the model include power doors for opening and closing, crystal glass LED headlamps as well as a panoramic sunroof. There is some blend between the iX and the 4 Series which makes up the entire sedan.
BMW i7: Cabin
The BMW i7 focusses on rear-seat entertainment for its buyers. It will get a theatre screen on its inside, which is a 31-inch ultrawide display along with a touchscreen infotainment system. The theatre screen is huge with a sharp 8k resolution which can be lowered from the headliner. BMW is also collaborating with Amazon Firestick as well. Therefore, you can watch movies via OTT platforms, and streaming too.
The inside of the car also has other features including a digital instrument cluster, LED lighting. It also has a Bowers and Wilkins surround sound system as well as ADAS features. BMW’s i7 and the next-generation 7 Series sedans will be among the first ones to get a theatre screen.
The infotainment system will feature the latest iDrive interface. The dashboard will also be home to the BMW Interaction Bar. It is a light strip fitted at the instrument panel and door panels that provides visual feedback.
Engine and Powertrain
The technical details for what is under the hood of the new sedan is yet to be revealed. Although the sedan has a claimed WLTP range between 580 to 610 km with a single charge. The drivetrain and the battery packs will be similar to that of the flagship iX electric SUV. As of now, the iX has the xDrive40 with a 326-hp powertrain and its battery is 76.6 kWh. The xDrive50 has a power of 523 hp along with a 105 kWh battery.
After the launch of the i7 luxury sedan, the model will have to compete with the Tesla Model S, the Mercedes-Benz EQS as well as the upcoming all-electric version of the Audi A8. No talks about its launch in India have been made. Although considering that BMW wants to bring more EVs into the Indian market, it is expected to come soon enough.
