BMW has launched the all-new all-electric SUV the iX in India. The car is priced at ₹1.16 crore and comes as a completely built unit (CBU). The new electric SUV will be available in a single variant, the xDrive 40. Here’s detailed information about the new BMW iX.

We have already spoken about the interior and exterior details of the new iX. The monolithic exterior design and the massive size of the vehicle create a good road presence and a bold statement about the vehicle. At the front, the car gets sleek headlamps with LED DRL strips. The large kidney grille is close and has triangular design styling on top. Two vertical air intake vents are placed on either side of the bumper. Moreover, the hood of the SUV cannot be opened and the washer fluids are refilled through an inlet under the BMW logo.
The car gets copper accents and large futuristic alloy wheels. BMW offers the iX in 4 different colour schemes: Black Sapphire metallic, Sophistio Grey, Mineral White Metallic and Phytonic Blue metallic.
Other exterior features are sleek taillamps, frameless doors, and a rear diffuser under the bumper.
BMW iX: Interior and safety
The new iX comes with exquisite cabin styling. In fact, the interior gives away a futuristic and luxurious vibe. The dashboard comes covered in leather and a curved 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system are placed on top. Also the gets sleek airconditioning outlets run under the screen and a pentagonal steering wheel with several controls.
To increase the premium feel of the interior BMW has included a Crystal gear shifter, I-drive knob, and seat control options. Other interior features are leather seats, USB-c ports, and a panoramic sunroof.
Safety features include– ABS with brake assist, multiple airbags, cruise control with braking function, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), stability control (DSC), and driver-assist features such as blind-spot detection lane change warning with active return, and front collision warning. Also, the iX has received a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating.
Powertrain and battery
In India, the new iX will only be available in a single variant the xDrive 40. This variant comes with a dual-motor drivetrain with motors attached to the front and rear axle of the vehicle. Furthermore, the car can generate a power of 326 hp and 630 Nm of peak torque. BMW claims that the car can accelerate from 0-100 in just 6.1 seconds.
The BMW iX xDrive 40comes with a 76.6kWh battery pack. The xDrive 40 can provide a driving range of up to 425km. Moreover, the car gets a 2.3kW, single-phase charger for domestic sockets and an 11kW AC wall charger, as an introductory offer. The 11kW charger can charge the iX from 0-100% in just seven hours. BMW has future-proofed the iX, the car supports DC fast charging and can charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 73 minutes at 50kW capacity, and in just 31 minutes using a 150kW outlet.
The BMW iX is a great car as it comes with great styling, features, and performance. The new SUV will rival BEVs such as Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-Tron SUV, and Jaguar i-pace.
