The French maker, Citroen Introduced their C5 Aircross SUV back in April which was filled with luxury, comfort and tons of features. Now the carmaker has introduced their second instalment in the Indian market, the C3 SUV.
Holding on to the tagline ‘Made in India, Made for India’, the Citroen C3 will be produced in the company’s plant in Chennai. Citroen has managed to localize about 90% of the C3. Resulting in a very aggressive price range for an aggressive segment.
The Citroen C3
Citroen refuses to call it an SUV, instead, they call it SUV inspired. It is based on the Common Modular Platform (CMP) which underpins the new Tata Punch. With an eye for the future, Citroen also confirmed that the platform is electric-ready for an EV version of the C3.
Similar to its sibling (C5 Aircorss) the C3 gets the long chrome logo in the front which connects both X-shaped DRL’s placed around the headlight. The smart face C3 has two small grilles up front spilt by the nameplate. It also gets a sporty bonnet, thick body cladding all around, flashy dual-tone alloy wheels and a minimalistic design at the rear end with a LED taillight.
Citroen C3 dimensions
The sub 4m SUV is expected to measure 3.98m in length, 1.82m in width, 1.47m in height. The Unladen ground clearance is expected to be 180mm and has a 2.54m wheelbase. The glove compartment has a capacity of one litre and the boot will get 315 litres which obviously can be expanded by folding the seats.
What powers the C3?
Citroen still has not confirmed the engine specs of the C3. But it is rumoured to get a 3-cylinder 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine capable of making 130 horses. Another interesting fact is that it is likely to feature a flex-fuel engine. Capable of running only with petrol or an ethanol blend, making it the first flex-fuel car in India.
Competition and pricing
According to Citroen’s Brand head, India, Saurabh Vatsa ”C3 is being introduced in a B-segment, which is highly competitive in India but has the potential to expand and grow further. This segment is seeing a lot of young buyers who want a sub-4 metre car, which is an extension of their personality. The C3 is positioned in that sweet spot and will appeal to the young generation of customers in India”.
Citroen getting into the B-segment with the aim of targeting the younger generation, the pricing has to be really aggressive. When launched the C3 is guessed to be priced around Rs 7 – 13 lakh range. The Citroen C3 will take on the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Tata Punch among others.
