The French Automaker Citroen has registered a sale for 230 units in the month of April which is its first month open to sales in India. Citroen produced around 280 units of its C5 Aircorss unit from its production plant in Tamil Nadu out of which 230 have been dispatched. The C5 Aircross has also received a pre-booking of over 1,000.
The C5 made its debut in India in April 2021 and was launched as a rival for the Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass. The company highlighted Citroen’s design and comfort as its selling point.
The C5 is priced between INR 29.90 Lakhs and INR 31.90 lakhs. It is available in two variants namely the ‘Feel’ trim and the ‘Shine’ trim.
The Feel trim is packed with features like LED DRLs, fog lamps, diamond-cut alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, digital instrument cluster, drive, and traction modes, and even auto parking.
The Shine trim on the other hand adds in more features like a panoramic sunroof and a hands-free opening function for the tailgate and kit like LED projector headlamps.
Both the Trims have the same safety equipment as standard which incles 6 airbags, ESP, Traction control, hill start, and descent assist. The C5 is also equipped with electric parking brakes, reversing sensors, and cameras.
Engine and Gearbox details:
The C5 Aircross has a single diesel-automatic powertrain combination which is powered by a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel engine that generates a horsepower of 177hp and a torque of 400Nm. An 8-speed automatic gearbox is used in the C5.
Manufacturing and future of Citroen:
The C5 is assembled from CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits at its plant in Tamil Nadu. Citroen also has set up showrooms in key cities all across India to make it more easily accessible.
Citroen also plans on launching more of its products in the Indian market and has come up with a ‘C cubed’ strategy and is aiming at rolling out one car every year for the next 4-5 years in the country.
Citroen will be launching the C3 this year and will be rivalling against Nissan Magnite, KIA Sonet and Hyundai Venue.
