According to CC21, Citroen is preparing to launch its first mass-market model in India, which is owned by Stellantis. There are reports that Citroen C3 crossovers sold in other countries will be replaced by this new model. Citroen’s new C3 is set to go into production in India and overseas in the coming months. CC21 will be built in India and South America at the same time and will only be available in Petrol.

When is the Citroen CC21 (New C3) launching?

The new Citroen C3 will go into production in late December of this year, we can exclusively reveal. India and South America are expected to begin series production simultaneously, with the model expected to go on sale in both regions sometime early next year. The CC21 was originally scheduled to make its global debut in May of this year, but was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. On September 16, 2021, the CC21 is scheduled to make its global debut.

Citroen India’s CC21 sales target is modest

According to Citroen India, the CC21 (New Citroen C3) will initially be produced at a rate of 33,000 units per year, or around 2,750 units per month. Company had previously announced that production capacity would be ramped up in phases to 1,000,000 units a year at the Thiruvallur facility. Ten dealerships in India currently sell the C5 Aircross SUV, the company’s only product. Similar to the C5 Aircross, the CC21 is expected to be sold online as well as through dealerships.

In South America, the yearly manufacturing target for the CC21 is substantially greater, at roughly 71,000 units, or around 5,900 units per month. Citroen and its sibling brand Peugeot have long been prominent in the South American market. The PSA Porto Real Production Centre, which already produces various PSA brand vehicles and has a capacity of roughly 1,50,000 units per year, will create the CC21.

What else do we know?

Citroen’s CC21 is based on the CMP modular platform, which will also be used by Jeep’s sub-four-meter SUV. It will be manufactured in India and heavily localised. This new compact SUV, which is expected to be called the new C3, was unveiled in the form of a promotional scale model. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox, depending on the market. It will have a boxy design similar to the Hyundai Venue, but it will also have several Citroen-specific design elements.
