The all-new Honda Civic hatchback has been revealed and is based on the 11th generation Civic revealed a few months ago. The new hatchback was developed in Europe which offers a dynamic experience. It is also offered with an updated transmission and engine options. The car will be manufactured in Honda’s Greenburg plant, USA and will commence later this year.
Honda Civic Hatchback: Design
The new Civic adopts a conservative design approach compared to the current model. The radiator grille on the front has a new honeycomb mesh pattern and the panel joining the bonnet and the grille has been redesigned with a reverse slanted angle to contrast well with the sedan counterpart. It also features clear lines and sporty trims in order to distinguish it from its sedan counterpart. Other styling includes 18-inch petal-shaped dual-tone alloy wheels, twin dual chrome exhaust tips, liftback tail light and a shark fin antenna.
The dimensions of the new Civic hatchback has increased, it is 4549mm in length 1801mm wide and 1415mm in height. This makes it 34mm longer, 2mm wider and 6mm lower than the ongoing model. To improve the sporty appeal the windscreen pillar has been pushed back by 50mm and the wheelbase has been increased to 2736mm, 36mm longer than the previous model.
On the inside, the new Civic hatchback follows a similar layout as the sedan sibling. A nice honeycomb treatment is seen across the dashboard and the company has tried to eliminate most of the buttons. The only buttons you see are for the AC controls, blinkers, electronic handbrake, and most multimedia functions are now added to the infotainment system. It also gets leather upholstery.
Features and safety
Honda has offered a lot of features for the car, some key features are the 9-inch color touchscreen infotainment with 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, a 10.2-inch digital instrument console, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, wireless charging, heated seats, and more. Talking about safety, the Honda Civic is equipped with 10 airbags and a full suite of Honda Sensing Active safety technology. It also features adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring and more.
Honda Civic Hatchback: Engine & Transmission
The new Civic hatchback will be offered in the old 1.5L petrol engine seen in the old version and a new 2.0L petrol engine. The 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine churns out 180bhp of peak power and 240 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the 2.0L petrol engine is a naturally aspirated motor producing 158bhp and 187 Nm of torque. It will be offered in a 6-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic transmission option.
The Honda Civic hatchback will be offered in 4 different trims globally, the LX, LE, L Sport and the Sport Touring. The Civic will be exported to most of the European countries via its North American plant as Honda is on track to close its Swindon UK plant in the coming future. We don’t expect Honda to launch their new Civic Hatchback in India as the brand has pulled the plug twice on the Civic in India for its poor sales figures.
