Honda has revealed plans to go fully electric by the year 2040.
To kick off its electrification project, the Japanese automobile manufacturer has showcased 2 new electric vehicles and 3 new concepts planned for the Chinese market. Earlier this year Honda had announced their plans to roll out 10 new electric vehicles in the Chinese market in the next 5 years.
Honda will be releasing their new electric car range which will be exclusive to China. The electric cars will be introduced under the EN series badge. The E part stands for Honda’s E-Technology which the car will use. The N stands for now or next, it represents “New value creation for next-generation mobility”. N series badging signifies that this is a new line of Honda cars.
Honda e:NS1 and e:NP1
The first two models to rollout will be the e: NS1 and e: NP1, these cars will be based on the new HR-V. Production of these two models will begin in the first half of 2022. The electrification project in China is made possible by the Partnership Honda has formed with Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda. The new e:N series models come with an architecture exclusively developed for honda’s EVs and this will create a sporty and exhilarating driving experience.
Honda had displayed the prototypes of their upcoming electric SUVs at the 2020 Beijing motor show. Production models of the e:NS1 and e:NP1 will have 5 doors while the concepts displayed were 3 doored models.
Honda Concepts cars
Three of the upcoming Honda electric cars are, e:N SUV, e:N GT and e:N Coupé,. These cars are planned to hit the market in the coming 5 years. No details relating to the performance and technical specifications of the upcoming production models and the 3 concepts have been released yet.
The carmaker has confirmed that these electric variants are for china only. This is exciting news because it means that Honda’s electric cars are coming to other countries someday soon!
Honda is already working on a mid-size SUV to go against the best selling Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and the newly launched MG Astor. The SUV will be based on the City’s platform and is expected to launch in 2023.
However, the newest update from Honda will be the City Hybrid. The sedan will be launched in 2022 and is likely to be the most fuel-efficient car in India.
