The much-awaited car from Hyundai is the 7-seater SUV, Alcazar. The car launch has been delayed by almost a month and the price list will come out in June 2021. The reason for the delay is the ongoing Covid 19 Pandemic. But some Hyundai dealers have unofficially been accepting the bookings for the SUV. The car is based on Creta’s platform but some dimensions have been changed accordingly.
The Alcazar is a 3-row version of the existing Creta, it also shares few design elements among them like few body panels and interior bits. The changes in design between Creta and Alcazar is very subtle, the Alcazar gets a tweaked front studded grille with similar headlamps and fog lights. It also gets a new bumper, elongated body, new tail lamps, new 18-inch alloy wheels and faux dual exhaust tips. It gets 2 seating configurations, the 7- seater gets bench seating for the second row and the 6-seater gets 2 captain seats in the second row.
The Alcazar 7-seater is based on Creta but the dimensions are increased to accommodate the 3rd row. The improved length of the car increases the wheelbase of the car to 2,670mm which is 150mm more than Creta’s wheelbase. This is also the segment’s longest wheelbase. The boot space is also the largest among competitors with 180 Litres with all 3 rows in position.
Alcazar gets all the feature from Creta: a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7.0-inch driver’s display, wireless charging, cruise control, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic AC, electronically adjustable driver’s seat, 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitoring, ISOFIX child seat mounts and more.
The Alcazar will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. A 2.0L petrol engine that produces 160bhp and 192nm of torque. This is the same engine that is in the Tucson and Elantra but tuned differently which makes 7 more horses. The diesel engine is a 1.5L turbo making 115bhp and 250nm of torque. The transmission includes both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The Hyundai Alcazar is expected to be priced from Rs.15L ex-showroom. It will rival the Tata Safari, MG Hector, the present Mahindra XUV500 and later when launched the Mahindra XUV700.
