Tata and Hyundai are releasing smaller versions of their current sub-4 metre compact SUVs. As a result, the Punch and Casper Micro-SUV would be placed beneath the Nexon and Venue. These would not, however, be hatchbacks with increased ground clearance, but rather smaller but still capable SUVs.

Micro SUVs appear to be the flavour of the season, and automakers are attempting to capitalize on this demand as much as possible. They are the most affordable SUVs, and they serve as an alternative to a hatchback with an SUV-like form and a length of less than 4 meters. Casper Vs Punch: Dimensions

Both the Casper and the Punch would be hatchbacks in size or length. Both SUVs, on the other hand, would include aggressive design elements. The Punch will have a length of 3,840 mm, a width of 1,822 mm, and a height of 1,635 mm, according to our estimates. Punch will have a 2,450 mm wheelbase. The Casper is shorter than the Tata Punch, measuring 3,595 mm long, 1,595 mm wide, and 1,575 mm tall with a 2,400 mm wheelbase. Despite its modest size, it boasts a boxy form that maximizes inside space.

For example, the Punch, like its bigger brother Harrier, sports a striking front end with a split headlamp and DRL setup. Like the Punch, the Casper sports a big lower grille with a black surround, as well as round LED headlights with DRLs above. The Punch, on the other hand, has a more robust appearance with cladding, skid plate, and roof rails. Whereas Casper has a tall boy appearance. The top-end of both will have 15-inch wheels. They’ll have a ground clearance of more than 180 millimetres.

Features & Interiors

While the interiors of both SUVs have yet to be seen, the SUVs will have athletic and young interiors. The Punch will use the HBX’s cabin with its robust aesthetic aspects, while the Tiago’s features, like digital dials and a 7-inch screen with smartphone connectivity, will be borrowed. The Casper will have a design that is comparable to the Nios but with some additional stylistic upgrades. Both SUVs will come with a touch screen infotainment system, a rear-camera display, dual airbags, and climate control, among other features. Expect greater space and better headroom than comparable hatchbacks.

Casper Vs Punch: Engine & Transmission 

Both the Casper and the Punch would have exclusively petrol engines in this price range. The Punch will most likely be equipped with the same 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 85 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque as the Altroz, as well as an AMT automatic and 5-speed manual gearbox. In 2022, Tata plans to release a more powerful Punch with a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Drive modes will be included in the higher-end models. The Casper would also get a 1.0-litre gasoline engine and a 1.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, similar to the i10 Nios. Aura, Venue, and i20, as well as AMT automatic transmission.

Expected Price & Release Date

This is where Casper and Punch begin to make sense. Both Hyundai and Tata will aggressively price their tiny SUVs below their hatchback counterparts. As a result, the Punch is expected to start around Rs 5 lakh, and the Casper will follow suit. The top-of-the-line mini SUVs would cost roughly Rs 9 lakhs, which is well below the 10 lakh barrier (ex-showroom).

As a result, the greater room and ground clearance make more sense at this pricing. The Casper appears to be boxier and will prioritize size and features. Whilst the Punch prioritizes design, safety, and looks more like a genuine SUV.

The Tata Punch was unveiled in August 2021, with a launch date set for 4th October 2021. On September 1, 2021, the Casper micro-SUV made its global debut. The debut in India is scheduled for March 2022.
