The Hyundai i20 N Line could be released in India this year, with other N Line models likely to follow.

Hyundai has stated that the first N Line model will be launched in India in 2021, with more variants to follow in the coming years. As we previously reported, Hyundai will launch its N performance brand in India with the i20 N series, which has already been spotted testing on Indian soil.

Hyundai’s N performance division offers two types of models: true performance N cars and mildly altered N Line cars. They will launch the performance-oriented N Line range with the i20 N Line as the initial model. Because it has previously been teased and spied testing, the i20 N Line will be the first. Full-fledged ‘N cars’ with higher power could follow in the future. N Line models will add sporty cosmetics inside and out as well as mechanical tweaks to make the drive enjoyable. N Line variations of the Venue and Creta are possible in the future.

Details on the Hyundai N brand in India

To begin, Hyundai will introduce its ‘N Line cars’ in India, which typically have exhaust and suspension modifications above the normal model, as well as sporty exterior and interior accents. The business claims that its N Line models would be “available to all,” implying that they will be reasonably priced.

The CEO and MD of Hyundai Motor India, S.S. Kim stated, “With N Line, Hyundai Motor India will continue to challenge new boundaries and introduce new cars that amplify the aspirations and personalities of new-age millennial and gen Z buyers.” He added, “To augment customer delight, we will introduce a new N Line model in 2021 and subsequently, launch additional N Line models for Indian customers over the next few years.”

India launch this year

The i20 N Line might be the vehicle that kicks off the N Line brand in India. The i20 N Line, like its counterparts in other markets, will be powered by a 120hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a sharper exhaust and a few suspension tweaks over the original model to give it a sportier setting. In India, the i20 N will be the top of the i20 range.

There will also be exterior and interior upgrades to make the car look sportier. It will have more aggressive front and back bumpers, a more aggressive grille, more skirts, a conspicuous rear diffuser, dual exhaust pipes, larger wheels, and more colour possibilities. The i20 will have visible N badging and red stitching throughout, as well as sport front seats, a bespoke steering wheel, metal pedals, and an N-branded leather gear knob on the inside.

What else can we expect from the Hyundai N lineup in India?

Following in the footsteps of the i20 N, other models with comparable enhancements could be on the way. Hyundai will also consider bringing full-fledged ‘N vehicles’ to India later, as we previously reported. These cars include more powerful engines, a strengthened chassis, stronger springs and dampers, improved steering, and better brakes.

Under the 2,500-car quota arrangement, Hyundai is also considering importing the full-fledged 204hp i20 N. In India, this may be positioned as a halo product for the company. If Hyundai’s imported N cars are a success, the business may begin assembling the models locally in the future.
