Former Bajaj Group Chairperson Rahul Bajaj passed away on Saturday aged 83 in Pune. The automotive sector has expressed grief and mourned his passing. All the leaders in the automotive and manufacturing industry paid their tributes to the departed soul. Rahul Bajaj was the creator of the iconic “Hamara Bajaj”. The cause of his death was bad health and he was not keeping well recently.
Moreover, his two sons Rajiv Bajaj, Sanjiv Bajaj and daughter Sunaina Kejriwal will continue the legacy of the legend.
Rahul Bajaj’s body was kept at the Bajaj Auto plant in Pimpri-Chinchwad for people to pay their respects. Hundreds of industrialists, workers, politicians, and commoners made their way to the plant to tell one last goodbye. Many remembered the great and ambitious man. Others spoke about the boss who always made them feel like an ‘aapla manoos’ (our man). Furthermore, the Cremation of the great industrialist was at 5:30 pm on Sunday, with full state honours in Pune. The last rites were performed by his sons, Rajiv and Sanjiv Bajaj.

Maruti Suzuki India CEO, Kenichi Ayukawa, expressed his condolences on behalf of the automotive industry, “Rahul Bajaj was a great industrialist who built an empire on sound principles and left a legacy that makes India proud with presence in several countries. Furthermore, Bajaj made an invaluable contribution to the automobile industry”. Also, he added, “The greatness of his personality lay in his simplicity, accessibility, frank, and honest communication just like his visionary entrepreneurship”.
Vinkesh Gulati the President of the Federation of Automotive Dealers’ Association said that this death is an irreplaceable loss for the industry. “When India started opening up its economy, Rahul Ji made Bajaj a shining star in India’s growth story. As an appreciation of his work he got the ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ by FADA in the year 2012 as a truly ‘buland bharat ke buland tasveer’,”.
Venu Srinivasan, Chairman, TVS Motor Company, added that Bajaj was a pioneer in the Indian auto industry. Also, he “established a culture of quality and technology bringing a combination of high integrity in business and principled stand”.
Simple Energy’s CEO Suhas Rajkumar praised Bajaj’s contribution to the Indian automobile industry. “He changed the two-wheeler space forever,”.
