Jeep India has been planning to expand its portfolio by bringing in many exciting models to our market. The American automaker will introduce the new Meridian and the Grand Cherokee in our country this year. However, the company has dropped its plans to include a sub-4-meter SUV in the Indian lineup. Read the complete article to know the real reason.

Information from the meeting with Jeep CEO

The company had earlier shown interest in bringing a midsize SUV to our market. This came as great news for Indian petrolheads, as the sub-4-meter segment did not have a real 4×4 SUV. Now Jeep CEO Christian Meunier stated that the company does not plan to introduce a new sub-4 meter SUV to the Indian market.

Meunier also added that the company’s DNA would not work well in a subcompact SUV. “Right now, we are not looking at making an entry into the sub-4 metre SUV. The car has to carry the Jeep DNA and we do not want to bring a Quasi-hatch styled car that does not live up to the expectations of Jeep customers. So the Renegade or any sub-4 metre SUV right now is off the table” said the Jeep CEO Christian Meunier.

Well, this is not good news for Indian consumers. However, the company still plans to bring its high-end products including the Jeep Grand Cherokee to India. Moreover, the manufacturer will make India the base for manufacturing right-hand drive vehicles for the Asia Pacific region. The automaker’s production facility in Ranjangaon will be used for vehicle production. Furthermore, the company is planning to launch the Meridian sometime this year. The automaker had earlier hinted at starting the local assembly of the Grand Cherokee in 2022.
