Jeep recently officially unveiled its latest seven-seater SUV to the Indian market, the Jeep Meridian. The Meridian SUV is said to be a longer version of the Jeep Compass and it is likely to be coming with 4×2 and 4×4 driving configurations. The Meridian is expected to be launched by June 2022 and will arrive in dealerships by May. Bookings for the model have not officially begun, although some dealers are accepting a down payment of Rs. 50.000/- for the same.

Jeep Meridian SUV: Engine and performance

The Jeep Meridian only comes with a 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is currently being used in the Compass. The model will not have a petrol unit. The Meridian’s engine can generate a power of 170 bhp and 350 Nm torque including either a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic gearbox. It is also said to have the option of an all-wheel-drive system.

Jeep claimed that the Meridian SUV will have leading performance in its segment. It can go from 0-100 kph within a time span of 10.8 seconds with a top speed of 198 kph. The car’s power-to-weight ratio is apparently the best in the segment as well. The Meridian has four driving modes including Auto, Sand, Snow and Mud.

Jeep Meridian SUVThe exterior of the new Jeep Meridian has many new and exciting looks and features. The model will have the signature seven-slot grille, LED headlights with integrated DRLs, new bumpers both at the front and back and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. Other features include LED taillights, brake lights, chrome inserts for the front bumper, roof rails and so much more. 

Interior

The Meridian SUV has a well-designed cabin as well. The technical part of it includes features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity and a fully digital instrument console. It also has a 9-speaker Alpine sourced music system as well as a 360-degree camera. The car will also have other features like a panoramic sunroof, climate control, dual-tone (brown and black) on its interior, ventilated front seats and a powered tailgate. It is available in six and seven-seater formats.  

The safety features of the car include 7 airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Control, traction control, Tyre pressure monitoring system, EPB, blind spot detection as well as ADAS features.

Jeep will produce the Meridian SUV at its Ranjangaon plant in Pune. The exporting for the model will also happen from the same plant. After launch, the Meridian will compete against SUVs such as Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Isuzu MU-X and the MG Gloster.
