Kia India has announced that the bookings for their flagship MPV the Kia Carens will commence from January 14, 2022. However, the prices for the same will come out later in February or March 2022. Kia calls the all-new Carens a “ Recreational vehicle” as it comes with the looks of an SUV and characteristics of an MPV. Moreover, many dealers across the country have already started accepting pre-orders for the newly launched MPV. Kia will manufacture both domestic and international units in India.
Kia Carens – Highlights
The Kia Carens will be the first model to feature the company’s new “Opposites United” design philosophy. The exterior highlights of the Carens are the LED daytime running lights, chrome accents around the radiator grille, technical-looking taillights, and chrome accents under the rear bumper.
Kia Caren’s interior styling is characterized by Kia’s Joy for Reason design philosophy. Kia has included all modern features like a fully digital instrument cluster, 10.25inch infotainment system. Other features are a unique front armrest, soothing dual-tone interior shading. Chrome door accents, ventilated front seats, air freshener vent, and stylish sunroof.
Moreover, safety features in the Carens include 6 Airbags, ABS, ESC, downhill brake control (DBC), hill assist control (HAC), vehicle stability management (VSM), All-Wheel Disc Brakes, TPMS Highline, brake assist system (BAS), and Rear Parking Sensors available across all variants.
Engine and transmission
The Kia Carens MPV gets both petrol engines and diesel engine units. The first 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine can generate 115hp, 144Nm of torque, which is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Furthermore, the second 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 140hp and 242Nm of torque. a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCT transmission setup is provided for this unit.
The 1.5-litre diesel motor can churn out 115hp and 250Nm of peak torque. All three transmission options are provided as options for this variant.
The Kia Carens is expected to be priced above the Maruti XL6 and Below Toyota Innova Crysta. However, the new MPV might undercut the price of its cousin the Hyundai Alcazar.
