Kia India has launched its all-new MPV the Kia Carens in India. The Carens MPV is tailor-made for Indian families, the automaker did intensive research to make the vehicle a perfect fit for the Indian market. The Kia Carens get a design language with the practicality of an MPV and the Feel of an SUV. The new MPV will take on the likes of MPVs such as Toyota Innova Crysta, Maruti Ertiga, and Maruti XL6. Moreover, the Carens feature three engines with both manual and automatic gearboxes.
Kia Carens: Pricing
Kia is selling the Carens at an introductory price of Rs.8.99-16.99 lakhs. The Carens come in five different variants – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus.
The prices vary according to the trims, engine and transmission options. Premium starts at Rs.8.99lakhs, Prestige comes at Rs. 9.99 lakhs, prestige plus at Rs. 13.49 lakhs, Luxury at Rs.14.99 lakhs and, the Luxury Plus variant at 16.19 lakhs.
Kia Carens: Powertrain
The Kia Carens come in 3 different engine variants. The superior petrol engine is a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol unit that can produce 140 hp. The 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated gasoline motor generates 115 hp. The 1.5-litre diesel engine can produce 115 hp.
All 3 engines come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as a standard option. Moreover, turbo-petrol and diesel engines get an optional automatic transmission. The turbo petrol comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and the diesel motor gets a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.
Both turbo-petrol and diesel motors are available across all variants. However, the 1.5-litre petrol is limited to the Premium and Prestige trims. Kia claims the petrol engine has an efficiency of 16.5 kpl and the diesel provides 21.5 kpl mileage
Kia Carens: Interior and Tech
The Carens come equipped with basics such as 3-row air-con outlets and a one-touch tumble function in the second-row seat. In fact, the tumble-down feature is best in class and enhances the experience of accessing the third row. High-end variants get premium features such as a 10.25-inch infotainment system with connected car tech, auto climate control, keyless go, cruise control. Other features include a fully digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, pop-up cup holders, etc.

Kia Carens 6-seat layout (with captain seats)
The Carens come with a seven-seat layout as standard. The high-end variants get an optional six-seat configuration with captain seats in the middle row. The Carens get a good amount of passenger space and leg space in the third row.
Kia Carens: Exterior Styling
The Kia Carens get the brand’s new Opposites united design philosophy. Moreover, the Carens is the first model to come out with the latest design styling. The opposite united design philosophy accentuates the contrast found in nature. Kia believes this will make its vehicle stand out from the rest. The Carens gets a bold side profile with a crisp shoulder line and long wheelbase. In fact, the Carens has a bold SUV- like look.
From the front-end, the Carens look sporty and stable. Moreover, the LED headlamps get Kia’s new signature LED DRLs- the star map. Other trims in the front are a chrome frame around the lower grille and chrome lining below. This trim placement creates a tiger face styling. The technical-looking tail lamp with star map LED design elements surely overpowers the rear. The rear bumper also gets chrome trims.
Kia Carens: Safety
Safety is a key aspect of new-age cars. The Carens is yet to be subjected to crash tests and hence, safety ratings are not available. However, it does come with best-in-class features such as to get six airbags, ESC, ABS, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and hill start and descent control.
