Kia India introduced their fourth product, the Carens MPV last month. The MPV is a direct competitor to the market leader Maruti Ertiga and the XL6. In just over a month, the Carens has taken down the XL6 in terms of sales. In the recent release, Kia confirmed that Carens has received over 50,000+ bookings in just 2 months.
The Carens is grabbing attention because of its competitive pricing, multiple engine options (which includes a diesel motor) and tons of features. Available in 5 different trims, Kia is offering the Carens in a perfect combination best suited for its customers.
Kia Carens Bookings Details
Kia managed to sell 18,121 units in the month of February 2022. Their best seller is the Seltos and the Carens grabs the third spot. Launched on the 14th of February, Carens managed to sell 5,300 units in just 2 weeks. It managed to go past the XL6 sales in just 2 weeks. The other MPVs should be worried about the debutant.
The company is definitely happy about the achievement. Kia India Chief Sales Officer, Myung-Sik Sohn commented “This response for the Carens has created a never before excitement in family mover segment and it matches the excitement that our other SUVs have generated, and it is very encouraging.”
Kia further added that 60% of the bookings received for the Carens is from the tier 1 and tier 2 cities in India. Among the 5 trims, the Luxury and Luxury Plus trims have high demand with over 45% of the bookings between them. They also found that buyers are showing equal interest in both petrol and diesel engines. Surprisingly only 30% of the buyers have opted for auto transmission whereas the rest have gone for manual transmission.
Every carmaker in India is currently facing a semiconductor shortage which is hindering their production and affecting sales. This is dealt with differently by different manufacturers. To keep the demand in control Kia has started a third shift in their Anantapur Plant, Andra Pradesh.
