Kia India has recently launched Carens, their 3-row MPV for the Indian market. The new Carens comes with exquisite exterior and interior styling. The Kia Carens is 4,540mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,700mm tall. The MPV has the longest wheelbase in the segment with a 2,780mm wheelbase. While Ertiga is 4,395 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, and 1,690 mm tall. The wheelbase of the Ertiga is 2,740 mm long.
Interior and Tech
The Kia Carens come with a wraparound dashboard with high gloss panels, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster,dual-tone interior shading. Other interior features are, unique front armrest, chrome garnished door trims, pop-out cup holders, air freshener vent, ventilated front seats,under-seat tray, and stylized sunroof.
The Maruti Ertiga offers a similar features list but does miss out on a sunroof, air purifier, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging pad, etc.
Powertrain
Under the hood, the Kia Carens come with two petrol engines and a diesel motor. The gasoline engines include a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit that can produce 115hp and 144Nm of torque. The second 1.4-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit can generate 140hp and 242Nm of torque. Furthermore, the diesel engine is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder unit producing 115hp and 250Nm of peak torque.
Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual, and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox (for the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol only). However, the diesel motor is mated with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
The Ertiga on the other hand features a single-engine variant. The 1.5-L K15B petrol motor can generate 103 bhp and 138Nm of torque. The gasoline motor can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Furthermore, the MPV is also available with a factory-fitted CNG as optional.
Pricing
Kia is yet to reveal the prices of the new Carens. However, we expect it to be priced around Rs. 15 lakhs to Rs, 18 lakhs. The Maruti Ertiga is priced between Rs. 7.69 lakhs and Rs. 10.69 Lakhs.
The Kia Carens come at a higher price when compared to Ertiga. If you are looking for a car with all the modern and advanced features, the Carens is a good option. However, the Ertiga comes with a long-range of service stations and good and reliable spare parts from Maruti.
