Kia Carens vs Maruti Ertiga: Comparing Luxury and Economy

Kia Carens vs Maruti Ertiga

Kia India has recently launched Carens, their 3-row MPV for the Indian market. The new Carens comes with exquisite exterior and interior styling. The Maruti Ertiga is one of the main rivalries for the new Carens. In this article, we will be doing a detailed comparison between Kia Carens vs Maruti Ertiga.

Kia Carens vs Maruti Ertiga: Design and Styling

The exterior design of the Kia Carens exhibits the new Opposites united design philosophy of the Korean automaker. The crisp shoulder line and the long-wheelbase give the SUV-like look. At the front, the car comes with a sporty design styling with new headlamps with Kia’s new signature LED DRL’s the star map. Kia calls the Front grille area the “Tiger Nose”. At the rear, the car gets a technical-looking taillamp with a star map-led design element. Also, the car gets chrome trims below the rear bumpers.

The Eritga, on the other hand, comes with a more muted design language. The large chrome grille in the center and large headlights are highlights of the front profile. Moreover, it also gets a bold bumper while the alloy wheels are modest. At the rear, the MPV has LED taillights with a large chrome strip in the middle of the tailgate.

Kia Carens vs Maruti Ertiga: Dimension

The Kia Carens is 4,540mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,700mm tall. The MPV has the longest wheelbase in the segment with a 2,780mm wheelbase. While Ertiga is 4,395 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, and 1,690 mm tall. The wheelbase of the Ertiga is 2,740 mm long.

Interior and Tech

The Kia Carens come with a wraparound dashboard with high gloss panels, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster,dual-tone interior shading. Other interior features are, unique front armrest, chrome garnished door trims, pop-out cup holders, air freshener vent, ventilated front seats,under-seat tray, and stylized sunroof.

The Maruti Ertiga offers a similar features list but does miss out on a sunroof, air purifier, ventilated seats, ambient lighting, wireless charging pad, etc.

Powertrain

Under the hood, the Kia Carens come with two petrol engines and a diesel motor. The gasoline engines include a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit that can produce 115hp and 144Nm of torque. The second 1.4-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol unit can generate 140hp and 242Nm of torque. Furthermore, the diesel engine is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder unit producing 115hp and 250Nm of peak torque.

Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual, and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox (for the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol only). However, the diesel motor is mated with a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The Ertiga on the other hand features a single-engine variant. The 1.5-L K15B petrol motor can generate 103 bhp and 138Nm of torque. The gasoline motor can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Furthermore, the MPV is also available with a factory-fitted CNG as optional.

Pricing

Kia is yet to reveal the prices of the new Carens. However, we expect it to be priced around Rs. 15 lakhs to Rs, 18 lakhs. The Maruti Ertiga is priced between Rs. 7.69 lakhs and Rs. 10.69 Lakhs.

The Kia Carens come at a higher price when compared to Ertiga. If you are looking for a car with all the modern and advanced features, the Carens is a good option. However, the Ertiga comes with a long-range of service stations and good and reliable spare parts from Maruti.
