The new Kia EV6 is deemed to be the most powerful and very fast vehicle in the brand’s lineup of cars. It is expected to get ready for its launch in the Indian market. This electric crossover made its global debut last year as the brand’s first all-electric vehicle. The EV6 is likely to come to the country through the CBU route. Recently, it was spied testing in Hyderabad, Telangana. The EV6 and its sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are going to launch very soon in India.

Kia EV6: Battery and powertrain options

The new Kia EV6 will be offered with 2 powertrain configuration options. It has a 77.4 kWh battery pack which is used for long-range and a 58 kWh battery pack for the standard range. These will be offered in the GT-Line and GT variants with both 2WD and AWD options.

The new top-spec EV6 GT trim comes with a dual motor tethered with the 77.4 kWh battery pack. This motor can generate a power of 576 hp and 740 Nm of peak torque. The EV6 GT is claimed to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in a matter of a mere 3.5 seconds. It can also reach a top speed of 260 kph. Because of the speed and power generated by the EV6, it can be clubbed into a higher category in comparison to the Porsche Taycan 4S

Like the EV6 GT, the EV6 GT-Line also has a 77.4 kWh battery but the power outputs are reduced to 229 hp in its RWD configuration and 325 hp in AWD form. It can go from 0-100 kph within 5.2 seconds. Similarly, with the 58 kWh battery pack, the model can produce 170 hp and 235 hp in RWD and AWD configurations respectively. As a result, it dashes to 100 kph from a standstill in 6.2 seconds. We have no information about which battery variant will come to the Indian market.

Battery Charging and features of the car

The new Kia EV6 will don an 800V charging architecture allowing the charge to go from 0 to 80% in a matter of 18 minutes. In just a matter of 4.5 minutes of charging, the model can travel up to another 100 km. The model also has a ‘vehicle-to-load’ function which can offer around 3.6 kW of power to other external devices including other electric vehicles.

Kia EV6In terms of features, the new EV6 will get new larger headlamps and a Tiger nose front grille. The new logo of Kia will also be exhibited on this model. It will have a swept-back windshield with an aerodynamic design, a roof spoiler as well as angular DRLs. The interior of the car is also expected to see the latest tech with an HD infotainment system, car connectivity and a digital instrument cluster.

The platform on which the new Kia EV6 is built is called the E-GMP platform (Electric Global Modular Platform). The EV6 shares the platform with the Hyundai Ioniq which will also launch in India soon. The EV6 is likely to be introduced in the country by June this year. The expected price of the car can go up to around Rs. 60 lakh as it is being brought to the country via the CBU route.
