Maruti Suzuki has had over 50% of the market share in India for a long time. Value for money, reliability, high mileage and good resale value are some of the reasons for their success. Now the carmaker has crossed another milestone. Maruti Baleno hatchback and the Ertiga MPV have crossed the 10 lakh and 7 lakh sales marks respectively.
The Baleno was launched back in 2015 October and just took 6 years to cross the million sales mark. On the other hand, Ertiga needed 9 and half years to cross the 7 lakh sales mark.
Maruti Baleno: The premium hatch
The premium hatchback is only sold in Maruti Suzuki’s premium sales channel, Nexa. It was the fastest hatchback to reach the 6 lakh sales mark in 3 years and 8 months. It completed 7 lakh mark in 4 years 3months, 8 lakh mark in just over 5 years and the 9 lakh mark in 5 and half years.
The current Baleno gets a petrol engine and a mild hybrid petrol engine. The NA 1.2-L 4 cylinder petrol motor pumps out 81 horses. With the assistance of mild-hybrid tech, it makes 90 horses. A 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmissions are on offer. The ARAI claimed mileage is a whopping 23.87 kmpl.
As for the features, it gets a 7-inch Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel, TFT multi-info display, keyless entry, engine start/stop button and more.
Baleno facelift was spotted undisguised recently and the carmaker plans on bringing it in 2022. It will get a mild life cycle update both on the inside and outside. The feature-loaded Baleno rivals the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, and Volkswagen Polo. Baleno grabbed a lot of attention with its stylish design and best in class features.
Maruti Ertiga: the family MPV
Maruti launched the Ertiga back in 2012 and the second generation in 2018. Available in petrol, diesel (discontinued) and CNG, the Ertiga diesel version has the highest numbers. At present the diesel has accounted for over 49.22% of the total sales.
The ongoing Ertiga is only offered in petrol and CNG variants. It features Maruti’s K15B engine, which produces 103bhp in petrol mode and 91bhp in CNG. Either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission will be on offer. However, there is only one CNG variant that only comes in manual transmission.
Comfort features in the family MPV include air-cooled twin cup holders, new ae SmartPlay Studio, steering mounted audio and calling controls and automatic climate control. As for the safety features, the Ertiga gets a vehicle tracking option, Geo-fence, navigate to the car and live location sharing.
The second-gen Ertiga launched back in 2018 is due for an update. Several spy shots of the Ertiga facelift have surfaced hinting at its launch in 2022. The pics reveal minimal updates both on the inside and outside. We don’t expect any mechanical improvements for the facelift. The Ertiga will rival the Renault Lodgy, Mahindra Marazzo and the upcoming Kia Carens.
