Maruti Suzuki had originally planned to launch the Celerio back in 2020. After having multiple delays because of the covid-19 pandemic the company is all set to launch the car this year. Now we have leaked photos of the patent images ahead of the launch. It reveals a couple of exterior design elements and the change of overall silhouette of the car giving it a more upright stance. Initially launched in 2014, the car had a mild facelift with few upgrades in 2017.

Updated Maruti Suzuki Celereio design

Maruti has stated that Celerio will utilize the brand’s lightweight Heartect platform. Which will likely be bigger and lighter making extra room for the cabin. This platform also offers better fuel efficiency, safety and enhanced driving dynamics. The overall dimension is expected to get bigger. This means a bigger wheelbase providing comfort for the passengers and more boot space. The improved ground clearance will give the hatchback a crossover-ish stance.

The 2nd gen Celerio gets a complete makeover for the exterior design. The squarish look is replaced by rounded design bits. It gets a new front grille and redesigned bumpers which beef it up. Other changes include sleek new projector headlamps with integrated DRL, new fog lamps, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new LED taillight at the rear and new alloy wheels.

There is improvement inside the cabin as well, it gets an updated dashboard with a 7-inch Suzuki Smartplay touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Other features include a new instrument cluster, power windows for all 4 doors, multi-function steering wheel. We can expect some parts to be shared from the other models in Maruti’s lineup. Like the wing mirror, seats, infotainment, window switches etc.

Engine options

Apart from the design changes, next-gen Celerio will also feature a new engine which underpins the WagonR. The 1.2L naturally aspirated K12 petrol engine makes max power of 83bhp and 113 nm of torque. It will likely feature a 1.0L 3-cylinder petrol engine alongside. The company might continue the petrol-CNG option for the second-gen on the lower spec 1.0L engine. There will be no changes in the gearbox, it will either get a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.

The Maruti Suzuki Celerio has been doing well for the company in sales since its launch. The brand expects that the updated Celerio will do better and help them to maintain the top spot for Maruti. We are not sure about the launch date and price of the car. However, it can be expected to come before the end of this year and the pricing will be known when the launch is closer. The car is placed against the Tata Tiago, Datsun GO, Hyundai Santro and Renault Kwid.
