Maruti Suzuki has confirmed their plans to launch the Maruti Jimny in India. A 5-door version of the SUV will be released in India. Currently, Suzuki sells 3-door versions in the international markets. However, the automaker is yet to confirm the launch date and detailed information about the 5-door Jimny.
The 5-door Jimny was recently spotted testing under heavy camouflage. The upcoming SUV will rival the likes of 5-door Thar and Gurkha SUVs. Here’s what we know about the upcoming Jimny.
5-Door Jimny: Exterior Styling and Dimensions
The 5-Door version will come with a longer wheelbase when compared to the current 3-Door variant. The current 3-Door variant is 3850mm long, 2550mm wide, and 1730mm tall. This variant comes with a wheelbase of 2550mm. However, the 5-Door version will get an extra 300mm longer wheelbase.
The Jimny gets a rugged look. The bold and boxy styling makes the SUV look like an extreme offroad machine. At the front, the Jimny gets arrayed rectangular grille like the Jeep. The circular headlamp and indicators create a retro appearance. The SUV comes with a Massive front bumper. The bumper comes in a matte black paint scheme and gets a silver skid plate at the bottom. Moreover, the extended wheelbase has made the side profile longer. The chamfered windows and Black claddings add to the off-roader vibes of the Jimny.

The interior styling will be the same as the current 3-door version. However, the new 5-door variant will come with a new seating layout. The Jimny will have all the advanced features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear AC vent, hill hold assist, and cruise controls, etc.
Powertrain
Under the hood, the Jimny will come with the tried and tested 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine integrated with Maruti’s 12V SHVS mild-hybrid system. This engine is already featured in cars like Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, and the S-Cross. This Gasoline motor generates 102hp and 138Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox are provided as transmission options.
5-Door Jimny: Launch in India
The Maruti Jimny will fall in a higher excise category despite measuring under 4 meters in length. This is because the India-spec model uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine.
Suzuki produces the Left-hand drive 3-Door variants for the international market in India. However, Maruti has started producing right-hand drive units for export as well. In fact, this could mean that the automaker might release the 3-Door variant in India sometime soon. As of now, only the 5-Door version will be hitting the Indian Markets. And the SUV will be a premium unit in Maruti Suzuki’s India Lineup.
