The new addition in the Maruti Portfolio is going to the 5-door Jimny long-wheelbase(LWB) version. The prototype has been spied testing in other markets and it will make its way into our market by July 2022. The new generation Jimny has got a lot better than the previous version with the updated design maintaining its SUV characteristics and some additional features.

Now there have been reports that the LWB version is going to feature a 1.5L turbo petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. This engine makes a power output of 102ps and 130nm of torque. The primary reason for this update is the increased weight and size of the mini SUV.  But Maruti is yet to confirm this with an official statement. The 1.5L engine won’t allow the mini SUV for lower excise duties which is offered for the sub-4 meter category cars.

Dimensions of Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The dimensions on the 5-door Jimny is different from the 3-door version. The LWB Jimny will measure 3,850mm in length, 1,645mm in width, 1,730mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,550mm and 210mm of ground clearance to offer. The LWB is 300mm longer than the normal version giving it extra inside the cabin.

There are some design changes expected in the LWB, redesigned front grille with horizontal slat which houses the circular headlamps and turn lights. The minimalist looking front bumper houses the fog lamp and the air intake. The wheel arches get a dark plastic cladding. The theme is carried over inside as well. There is an 80’s style square housing for the touch infotainment system, round AC vents and toggle switches which reminds us of the early Maruti Gypsy.

The LWB Maruti Suzuki Jimny was supposed to be unveiled at the 2021 Tokyo Motor Show but cancelled due to the Pandemic. However, the car will be introduced in 2022 but the brand is yet to make an official announcement of the India launch. The Jimny will be a direct rival for the Mahindra Thar when launched.
