Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno and Swift after have received a zero rating in the Latin NCAP Crash Test. The S-Presso also followed suit. After these recent happenings, Maruti-Suzuki has started to work on the higher safety standards of its cars. Maruti-Suzuki and Toyota are developing a new SUV which will be more inclined towards safety and connectivity. According to reports from ET Now, this new SUV is will be designed keeping in mind the 5-star NCAP crash test rating.

Maruti Suzuki is also striving for higher safety standards for its existing hatchbacks Baleno, Swift, S-Presso. Both the automotive giants are looking forward to improving car connectivity in their new venture of SUV. Presently, the models of this segment from the competitors like Tata, M&M have 4-5 star ratings.

Estimated to be at a length of approximately 4.3 m, this new SUV will have the modular unibody automobile platform of Daihatsu New Global Architecture abbreviated as DNGA from Toyota. Further on the lines of manufacturing cost, it is not evident whether Toyota will be providing a rebadged version or they would work on designing the entire body framework of this new SUV from scratch. However, confirmed news on the mechanical part like a 1.5 liter, 4 cylinder petrol engine producing a 104 bhp max power and 138 Nm of peak torque would be the deal-maker.

The new SUV from Maruti-Toyota will come with a strong-hybrid powertrain. It would aid in torque-assists at low speeds, fuel efficiency, and idle engine start/stop mechanism. Hoping for the best of higher safety with its 1.4-liter booster jet petrol engine giving exceptional performance in their Swift Sport model with 127 bhp max power and 235 Nm of peak torque.

Whether this new SUV would replace the ageing S-Cross?

There is news that this new SUV would replace the ageing model of the Maruti-Suzuki S-cross. However, there is no concrete idea about the final looks- whether it would be a mid-sized SUV or based on the cross-over design language of the S-cross.

The projected launch time of this new SUV is around 2022-2023.
