After ditching internal combustion engines for good in 2019, Smart has unveiled its first SUV concept at the Munich Motor Show. As a result of Geely’s acquisition of a 50 percent stake in Smart, the company is embarking on a radical new product strategy. This is the first bespoke EV from Smart Measures and is similar to Mercedes’ EQA EV from parent company Daimler AG. Detailed technical information is still being withheld.

Mercedes-Geely partnership

Geely will manage the engineering side of model development, while Mercedes will handle the design. In the form of a compact electric crossover, the near-production-ready concept measures 4,290mm in length, 1,910mm in width, and 1,698mm in height. In terms of size, it’s very similar to Mercedes-EQA Benz’s electric crossover, which is also owned by the German automaker.

The SEA platform

Powered by an electric motor, Geely’s Smart Concept #1 is based on the company’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). It has yet to be revealed the power and torque figures, as well as the estimated range.
