MG has seen huge success with its first EV in the market, the ZS EV. It has good range figures also providing value-for-money in terms of features. Now the brand has announced its IC counterpart to be launched by the end of this year. But MG has named it Astor which has been trademarked in India. The Astor will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, upcoming VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. The car was spotted testing which looks to be a top variant. So let’s dive into the details. 

What do we know?

The MG Astor will share most of the design details and features from the EV. The body panel and the sidelines that flow through the car are the same as the EV. But it comes with a new prominent front grille, sharper  LED headlamps with DRL, a new bumper, new alloys unique for Astor and a newly designed taillamp. It is however expected to come with a global facelift in select markets. Even the dimensions of the petrol SUV is the same as the EV.

The Astor interior will have subtle changes. It will be equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster that displays multiple information including tyre pressures. It comes with a floating 10.1-inch touch infotainment display which is Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto compatible. Additionally, it also gets a 360-degree camera view on the display, MG iSmart connected car tech, panoramic sunroof. 

It could feature the first is segment ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Like the autonomous emergency braking system, blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, hands-free auto parking.   

MG Astor engine options

The Astor might only come in BSVI compliant petrol engines. We expect the car to be offered in two engine options: a 1.3L turbo petrol engine and a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine. The 1.3L turbo offers 163bhp and 230nm of torque whereas the naturally aspirated engine produces 120bhp of power and 150nm of torque. It is likely to be offered in both manual and automatic transmission option.
