India will finally get the much-anticipated MG Astor mid-sized SUV on September 15, 2021. Volkswagen’s new compact SUV will compete with the likes of Hyundai’s Creta and the likes of Kia’s Seltos, Skoda’s Kushaq and Volkswagen’s upcoming Taigun. As a result, MG has revealed Astor’s most important features.
Segment first features in the Astor
With several segment-first features, the MG Astor mid-sized SUV has a leg up on the competition. This includes features such as the touchscreen infotainment system and connectivity features that are included in the entry-level models. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard in all trim levels of the new model.
There will also be a personal AI assistant in the new mid-sized SUV from MG. It’ll have a 10.1-inch touchscreen and smartphone connectivity. Music/videos will be available via the JioSaavn app as well. First-in-class Autonomous Level-2 technology will be included as well. Automatic emergency braking, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), forward collision warning, speed limit assist and adaptive cruise control are just a few of the ADAS features available.
Human-like emotions and voices are displayed by the AI assistant, which can also provide detailed information on any topic via Wikipedia. It’s powered by i-Smart Hub, and it’ll keep people in the car entertained. Subscribers and services such as MapMyIndia navigation, Jio connectivity, and KoineArth’s blockchain-protected vehicle digital passport can be found on the i-Smart Hub platform, as well as others. Additionally, MG Astor owners will be able to stream music from JioSaavn via the JioSaavn app, and reserve a parking space through a head unit (powered by Park+ – initially in select cities) in the vehicle.
There are LED headlamps with Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) that can also be used as turn indicators, as well as LED taillights on the new MG Astor mid-sized SUV. Three driving modes will be available: Dynamic, Normal, and Urban. Vehicle features include automatic wipers, a 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat with manual adjustment for the co-passenger seat, a panoramic sunroof and leather upholstery on the seats.
Engine and transmission
As for the new Astor, it’s likely to be offered with a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline engine and 1.3-litre turbocharged gasoline engine. The naturally aspirated petrol engine produces around 120bhp and 150Nm of torque, while the turbocharged petrol engine produces 163bhp and 230Nm. Optional transmissions include both a manual and an automatic version of the car.
