MG One globally unveils the new SUV featuring the brand’s new design language and architecture combined with ‘cutting-edge technology. MG One has launched two versions of the SUV: Fashionable and Sporty. It features SAIC’s new SIGMA modular architecture and is the first MG model to use the new design philosophy.
SAIC’s SIGMA modular architecture
The new SIGMA modular architecture helps to balance the interior space with the exterior body flow with interior space which allows for better cabin space. The company claims to have improved the interior space efficiency up to 70%.
According to MG One, the SIGMA architecture is a ‘ Fusion of machinery and intelligence, which transcends the difference between horsepower and the ability of the software.
The diverse nature of the new architecture helps to create over 100 different modules allowing the development of a variety of body types including internal combustion engines, hybrid powertrains and all-electric platforms.
The MG One SUV
The design looks fresh and keeps up with the competition. Offered in two versions Fashionable and sporty, both get the same architecture and dimensions. Aimed at a different set of buyers the fashionable trim has a subtle appearance whereas the Sporty trim has a more aggressive stance.
The tapered roofline swooping at the end rear sets the SUV apart from the competition. MG One has designed separate 3D grilles for both trims. The sharp LED headlamps with 3 integrated LED DRLs adds more character to the SUV. The air dam below the bumper and the side air vents are slightly different on both trims.
To distinguish the trims MG has incorporated different 18-inch alloys. The SUV measures 4,579mm in length, 1,866mm in width, 1,617mm in length and a wheelbase of 2,670mm.
MG has not confirmed the engine specs, however, we expect a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine to power the SUV. The engine makes around 170-180 bhp which is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Will the SUV make it to India?
The car made its global debut on July 30 in China. The company has made no official statement on the launch of the SUV in India. If MG brings it to India the One SUV will take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier. MG’s next product in India will be the Astor Compact SUV. It is the renamed petrol version of the MG ZS EV.
