The midsize SUV segment is one of the most popular in India. The recent shift in automotive trends has created a significant boost in this segment. With the rising competition, all major automakers are introducing value for money models in this segment to stay ahead of the game. In fact, midsize SUV sales own a good amount of share of the country’s auto sales pie. Here’s a list of the top 5 midsize SUVs sold in the month of January 2022.
1. Kia Seltos
The Kia Seltos has marked its position on top of the list with a total sales of 11,483 units in January 2022. Moreover, the sales were 9,869 units for the same model in January 2021. The company saw a significant rise of 16.35% in the YoY sales figures. This clearly shows the Indian consumer’s interest in value for money.
2. Hyundai Creta
The Hyundai Creta successfully captured second place with a total sales of 9,869 units in January 2022. However, the Korean automaker saw a -20% decline in the YoY sales as 12,284 Cretas were sold in January 2021. The Creta has been one of the best selling midsize SUVs in the country for a very long time. Furthermore, Hyundai’s large retail and service network attracts customers to its great lineup. Creta features the same 3 powertrains as the Kia Seltos.
3. Mahindra XUV700
The XUV700 is Mahindra’s flagship product. The homegrown automaker sold 4,119 units in the month of January 2022. There is no YoY comparison as this is a new product in the market. Moreover, the XUV 700 saw a great response and the company is still struggling to keep up with the demand. The ongoing chip shortage has led to the pushing of delivery dates which had a minor impact on the sales of the vehicle.
4. Hyundai Alcazar
Hyundai sold 3,168 units of the Alcazar in the month of January 2022. There is no YoY comparison as this was a new model by the Korean automaker. The Alcazar is a 3-row version of the Creta and gets similar powertrain and comfort features. The sales figures are pretty good for the model.
5. Mahindra Scorpio
Mahindra sold 3,026 units of the Scorpio in January 2022. However, the company did see a -25.88% sales decline in the YoY sales figures. 4,083 units were sold in January 2021. We believe that Mahindra can boost the sales for this model soon when the company launches the new facelift of Scorpio in India.

The upcoming Scorpio’s spy images came out a few times and we believe that the launch will happen in the coming months. The 2022 Scorpio will feature 2 new powertrains, 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine.
