New Electric Car From Skoda in Talks

Skoda Electric car

As per the latest reports, the possibility for the introduction of a new small Electric car by the SkodaVolkswagen Auto group is high. The feasibility of this idea is still being considered and studied properly. Even if they go ahead with it, it is not expected to launch in India before 2025

The CEO of Skoda, Thomas Schaefer at a recent Skoda event confirmed that a total of 3 new smaller EVs will be launched before 2030. These EVs will be positioned below the Skoda Enyaq iV. Out of them, one may even be positioned as an urban runabout.

Thomas Schaefer feels that the brand will require a new factory in order to produce affordable electric vehicles. A pilot study is being conducted on the Enyaq premium EV in the country. Skoda Automotives is expected to play a significant role in the Volkswagen Group’s future in India. For the next 10-15 years, Skoda will join with Volkswagen not just for EV production but also for conventional petrol-run vehicles as well.

Skoda Auto’s Electric car: Platform

The future of Volkswagen and Skoda’s small and affordable electric vehicles will likely have the MEB-Small platform. The wheelbase of this platform stands at 2,650 mm, and it will start from the year 2025. The production version of the ID.LIFE concept is going to be called the ID.1. This will be its first model which is built using this platform which may underpin models from other brands like the Skoda, or Cupra.

The standard MEB platform comes only in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive format, whereas the MEB-Small platform only gets front-wheel drive. The pricing of the car models will also be based on the platform used.

The new Kushaq SUV and the Slavia have already received more than 35,000 bookings since their debut. Skoda will continue to localise the MQB AO IN platform even more to reduce prices. The platform will also be changed up a little, to accommodate sub-4 metre models as well
