A camouflaged test mule of the next-generation Hyundai Verna has been spotted in South Korea. Like most of the cars from the automaker, the Verna will be first introduced in the South Korean market.
Expected to be debut sometime in 2022 in India, the sedan will go on sale from 2023. The Verna faces tight competition from the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the recently launched Skoda Slavia.
New Hyundai Verna: Design
The styling of the new Verna is similar to its sibling the Hyundai Elantra. The Verna gets the current ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. The same design elements can be seen on the i-20 hatchback as well.
The new Verna gets a wide grille that extends to the sides. The new headlamps come joined to the front grille. Verna gets a new look from the side profile too. In fact, the roofline of the sedan slopes to the rear to give it a fastback style boot.
At the rear, the new Verna gets new sporty-looking sharp taillamps. A reflective strip on the tailgate connects both the taillamps. The same element was already seen on the China- spec Verna. Also, the upcoming version of the Verna will be larger than the outgoing model.
New Hyundai Verna: Interior
The new Verna will come with a new different interior styling as well, Although the spy shots did not reveal any interior details, here are some features we expect in the upcoming version. A full TFT instrument console, Wireless charging, ventilated front seats, sunroof, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple car play, and Android Auto connectivity, Hyundai’s Blue Link connected car tech.
Also, features like powered driver seats and automatic climate control might be included in the upcoming model.
We still lack information on Verna’s powertrain options. However, we expect the Verna to feature the same 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines in the upcoming version. Both engines will come with integrated mild-hybrid technology. The mild-hybrid tech will add additional features such as automatic start/stop and brake energy regeneration. Therefore, the next-generation Verna will be more fuel-efficient.
Gearbox options will be the same with both engines. The current Verna gets a manual and an automatic gearbox. Furthermore, Hyundai might add smaller capacity turbocharged variants of the petrol engine in its lineup.
