Kia is developing a brand-new MPV for the Indian market, which has previously been spotted testing in Korea. The next Kia MPV (codenamed KY internally) has been spotted testing in India once more, revealing some new design elements. According to reports, this new MPV will be available in showrooms by March 2022.

New Design Features

The new Kia KY MPV will have a fresh design that borrows styling ideas from existing Kia models such as the Seltos and Sonet. As well as the newer Kia products such as the EV6 marketed worldwide. When viewed from the front three-quarters, the fully covered test mule resembles the Seltos. Although it has a significantly larger back door and glasshouse. To accommodate the third row of seats, it also gets strong shoulder lines and a somewhat longer wheelbase. The new MPV will have a rear end that is upright.

While the Seltos has a length of 4,315mm, the forthcoming Kia MPV is expected to be around 4.5 meters long. The MPV is expected to be the same length and wheelbase as the Hyundai Alcazar three-row SUV. In terms of the third row, sources say this new MPV will have a “useful” third row with more legroom than most of its competitors.

The MPV will have a broad “Tiger nose” grille and other sharp aesthetic characteristics, including a chrome blend. Although its dimensions do not appear to be significantly larger than the Seltos, the test mule appears to be near-production spec and can also be seen riding on new alloy wheels.

Powertrain Options

The Kia MPV is believed to be driven by the brand’s 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines. With the Seltos and Sonet, both of these engines are already available. Power and torque ratings, as well as gearbox options, should be identical to the Seltos.

The KY will be one of the few MPVs available in India with both a petrol and a diesel engine. The larger Innova Crysta, on the other hand, comes with both petrol and diesel engines.

Launch In India

The Kia KY MPV is likely to be presented globally in the coming months, with sales beginning in India early next year. KY will be manufactured in India and exported to other nations. When Maruti Suzuki launches facelifts for the Ertiga and XL6, both of which are slated to join the market around the same time. Kia’s new MPV will face fierce competition.

Similarly, a Hyundai variant of the same MPV is being developed in Indonesia, and while there are no official reports, this MPV could eventually make its way to our shores.
