MG Motor India confirmed their next EV for India. The EV is to be launched in 2023 with a price range of ₹10-15 lakh. With a low price range, the new EV will take on the Tata Nexon EV. MG’s current electric vehicle, the ZS starts from ₹20.99 lakh ex-showroom that rivals the Hyundai Kona.
What do we know about the new MG EV?
The new MG electric vehicle is a crossover and the carmaker plans on selling it in other international markets. The car is currently under development and will be based on MG’s global platform. It will be a sub-4m crossover with a smaller battery. The carmaker is also looking to localise most of the components to price it aggressively.
Rajeev Chaba, MG Motor India President and Managing director mentioned “Our next product after SUV Astor, we have been thinking about an EV and now we have been very encouraged with the absolute clarity from the government side that EV is the way to go. We have taken the decision that we are going to introduce an EV by the end of next financial year.”
He further added “On the expected price, he said it will range from ₹10 lakh to ₹15 lakh and will target the mass segment of personal electric mobility. It is actually a kind of a crossover and this is going to be based on a global platform, which we are going to develop and this will ve an EV for the mass market for all the emerging markets including India.”
