The present model Swift was launched in December 2016 and was in showrooms in early 2017. The 4 years old model was due to receive a facelift. Now there are reports that Suzuki is working on the next-generation Swift, which will make its global debut by July 2022. But Suzuki is yet to make an official statement about the launch. It will be based on the brand’s advanced version of the HEARTECT platform. This should improve the overall stability, safety and handling of the car. Will Maruti Suzuki launch this Swift in India?

Design of the new Swift

The next-gen Swift will carry the design traits of the current model but with some improvements like an enlarged radiator grille, sleek new headlight and revised taillamps. It comes with a new ORVM and a strong shoulder line and the hatchback will be designed to have less drag in order to be more efficient.

The cabin will feature a new layout and is expected to have a larger touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech on offer. It could also get a subtle cosmetic update with a rear AV vent for the new model.

Maruti Suzuki Swift 2021: Engine options

The Japanese spec model will offer a full hybrid system like the present model. Whereas the Indian spec and few other international markets will likely feature a hybrid system. However, instead of the present 12 Volt setup, it could receive a bigger 48-volt setup which improves the efficiency by a huge margin.

The Indian spec car will be equipped with the present 1.2L K12 Dualjet petrol engine which makes 89Bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. It will get a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT transmission. It is yet to be confirmed that the Indian spec model will receive a stronger mild hybrid system with a 48-volt battery.

Reports claim that Suzuki is also working on a sports model which will come with a sports specific tuned suspension and high-performance dual sensor brake support. This model could feature the K14D 1.4L Boosterjet engine coupled to the stronger mild-hybrid 48-volt battery. The engine produces a power of 127Bhp and 253Nm of torque and the battery pack will produce an additional 14Bhp and 53nm of torque. Making a total of 141bhp and 306Nm of Torque.

The Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift will be launched globally in July 2022, but we expect the car Maruti to get the car to India only by 2023. The Swift will rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Altroz, Ford Figo.
