According to a recent media source, Toyota has begun development on the next-generation Vios sedan for the Philippine market. In the Philippines, it is the best-selling Toyota, whereas, in Indonesia, the Avanza is the best-selling model. According to the source, the all-new Toyota Vios will be introduced in 2022, most likely in August.

For those who aren’t aware, the Toyota Vios is offered in Thailand as the Yaris Ativ. In India, Toyota also introduced the Yaris car, which was later withdrawn due to poor sales. A new mid-sized SUV for the Indian market will be developed on the Yaris manufacturing line.

The new Vios sedan was released in 2018, but it is essentially a redesigned version of the original model that was released in 2013. The sedan is now ten years old, and a new model for Southeast Asia may be introduced. D92A is the codename for the all-new Toyota Vios, according to reports. The new model is believed to be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture, or DNGA.

Daihatsu debuted the Daihatsu DN-F car in Indonesia a few years ago. It’s possible that the new sedan will be the production version of the DN-F. The DNGA platform will also be used in the next-generation Toyota Avanza. In actuality, the DN Multisix MPV concept will be used to inspire the Daihatsu Xenia and the new Avanza.

According to the source, Toyota will also release a hybrid version of the Yaris Ativ/Vios and the hybrid model will be available in August 2023. With the Corolla Cross hybrid and Corolla Altis hybrid, Toyota presently provides a 1.8L hybrid drivetrain. The Vios on the other hand could get the new 1.5L hybrid powertrain.

Toyota Vios to India?

Toyota is unlikely to launch the Vios car in India. Instead, a rebadged version of the Ciaz sedan will be released. In addition, the Toyota-Suzuki joint venture is working on a new mid-size SUV for the Indian market. The new SUV will most likely be built on the DNGA platform, which already supports the Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky.
