In recent times, Tata Motors has only been able to offer a single remote key for car models that offer keyless entry. This is mainly due to the shortage of semiconductor chips. A few models like the Tata Punch, Altroz, Harrier and the Safari will only receive a single remote key on its purchase. This move was taken by Tata as there seems to be no improvement in the semiconductor shortage situation in the country.

Chip shortage and measures

The ongoing global crisis of the semiconductor chip shortage is expected to last longer than we expected. The Covid pandemic was a major reason why it started affecting manufacturing as well. Hence, automakers like Tata started carrying out the necessary actions in order to keep up.

Manufacturers other than Tata have incorporated reducing some features in a couple of variants of a particular model. Tata is the last to use measures such as offering a single key to customers. Some base models which do not have keyless entry, are still offered with 2 manual keys. Only top variants of the Tata Altroz XZ and XZ+ are still being offered to customers with keyless entry through wristbands. This feature is also expected to be offered in top variants of Tata’s Punch, Harrier, and Safari as well.

Discounts offered by Tata Motors

In order to make up for this inconvenience and shortage, Tata is offering many discounts from March this year. The latest set of benefits offered by Tata will be prioritized for models like Nexon, Altroz, Safari, Harrier, Tiago and Tigor. With these models, customers will receive an exchange bonus of Rs. 40,000, Rs.20,000 cash discount as well as a corporate discount of Rs. 5,000. The Safari isn’t receiving any corporate discounts, although it is getting benefits of Rs. 60,000 for the 2021 model. It is also getting benefits worth Rs. 40,000 for the 2022 model.

Discounts of Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 20,000 are being offered for the 2021 and 2022 models of the Tata Tiago and Tigor. The Tata Altroz is only being offered cash discounts, although the turbo petrol variants will get benefits of Rs. 10,000. For naturally aspirated petrol variants, this offer stands at Rs 7,500.

Even though there are difficulties, Tata Motors is one of the best car selling automotive companies in India. It offers a wide range of models which are comfortable, sleek, safe and affordable as well. Once the semiconductors are more available, we are hoping Tata will re-introduce the features and a second key too.
