Porsche Taycan EV launched; now includes new GTS variants

Porsche India recently launched their first EV in India, the Taycan at Rs. 1.5 Crore. The EV is launched in two different body styles, sedan and Cross Turismo Estate. At the recently held Los Angeles Auto Show, the German carmaker introduced two new models globally. The EV lineup now includes Taycan GTS and Taycan GTS Sport Turismo. 

The Taycan GTS will be positioned between the Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo variants. Whereas the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is aimed at providing a fine balance between everyday practicality and on-road performance. 

Porsche Taycan EV range in India and their price 

The Taycan EV has been launched in 7 different variants in India. The range varies between 4 different sport saloon trims and 3 Cross Turismo trims. The entry-level Taycan and the 4S gets a 79.2kWh battery and the rest of the pack gets a bigger 93.4kWh battery pack. However, Porsche has given the option to get the bigger battery pack for their lower trims. 

Except for the basic variant of the Taycan, all other trims are equipped with two motors, one on both axles. The rear-wheel driven Trim makes 408bhp while the 4S makes 530bhp with the dual motors. The Cross Turismo 4S develops 571bhp and the Turbo models on both body styles make a whopping 680 bhp. 

The Taycan GTS and GTS Sport Turismo

The Porsche GTS range gets a few additional exterior design bits to differentiate it from the others. Includes a sufficient black detailing on the mirror base, window trims, skid plate, the front air vents and alloy wheels. The interior ambience is boosted by Black Race-Tex features and an aluminium interior package. 

Porsche’s GTS badge was only used on their internal combustion engine models previously. Now used on the EV, Porsche has precisely placed these models between the entry-level trims and performance-focused top-spec trims. 

Powering both the GTS models is the same 93.4kWh pack used in the Turbo models. It churns out 440 kW or 590bhp of power with a dual motor setup. The EV just takes 3.7seconds to go from 0-100 kmph with a top speed of 250 kmph. 

The GTS Sport Turismo has improved dimensions which improves space efficiency. The rear headroom is not up by 45mm than the Sports Saloon and the boot space is now more than 1200-Litres. 

It includes features like adaptive air suspension with PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), panoramic sunroof with sunshine control, Porsche’s Electric Sport Sound, optional rear-wheel steering. 

Porsche Taycan India 

The GTS variants have been launched globally, but there is no official statement on its launch in India. As of now, Porsche only offers 7 different variants priced between ₹ 1.50 and 2.31 Crore. Talking about its competition, the Taycan EV takes on the sibling, Audi e-tron GT and Tesla Model 3 when launched.
