The Urus is Lamborghini’s second SUV, some 25 years after their previous SUV, the LM002, went out of production. It is named after a kind of wild Ox that predates modern farmed cattle. It rides on the same MLB Evo platform as the Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga, and Audi Q7, all of which are part of the VW Group.

The Urus is driven by a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 that produces 650bhp at 6,000rpm and 850Nm of torque from as low as 2250rpm. From zero to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds, the Italian SUV accelerates to a high speed of 305 km/h, making it the quickest SUV available today. Through an eight-speed automatic transmission, Lamborghini’s Tamburo dynamic control transfers power to all four wheels.

The 6.0-litre V12 engine is mounted behind the centerline of the front wheels, while the eight-speed Touchtronic III transaxle is mounted at the back, concentrating the principal masses of the Rapide S within the wheelbase and ensuring near-perfect weight distribution. This improved agility while also giving consistent, confidence-inspiring handling on all roads and in all weathers.
