For quite a while now, Renault – the french carmaker, has been plotting to enter the EV game in the Indian market.  While it still maintains exclusivity in product plans, Renault has hinted that Megane E-Tech could be the first EV of its kind. This model of Renault is the first to be based on the RNM (Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi) Alliance’s CMF-EV platform that goes with AWD and 2WD systems.

The well-devised architecture of the Renault E-Tech has a compartment for the battery pack on the floor that enables the lower arrangement of seats. It also allows cars to have a long wheelbase and arguably short overhangs.

Renault Megane E-Tech: Battery and Performance

Renault’s EV will come with two battery packs. It will have 40 kWh and 60 kWh along with two electric motors. Both the motors have a power of 130 bhp and 218 bhp while their torque is 250 Nm and 300 Nm respectively. The range for the smaller battery is around 300 km, and the bigger one can go up to 470 km. Some of the variants of the model can jump from 0-100 kmph in 7.4 seconds. The battery of the Megane E-Tech can be charged up to 80% in 30 minutes with a 130 kW DC charger. 

The E-Tech is expected to come to India via the CBU (Completely built-up) route. The prices will likely start from Rs.45 lakhs. Renault is a big name in the country and there are big expectations for this car model as well.

Renault Megane E-Tech: Exterior Features

Renault Megane E-techThe Renault Megane E-Tech is loaded with many features including 20-inch alloy wheels and LED arrangements for the lights at the rear. Other features also include C shaped updated headlights and flush-fitting door handles. Wheelbase for the new EV variant is 30 mm longer, i.e 2700 mm in comparison to ICE Megane.

Interior Design

Renault Megane E-techThe interior cabin of the EV is exemplary with a smooth finish. The Renault Megane E-Tech has an integrated dashboard with a 12-inch display infotainment system. Moreover, it has an instrument cluster that measures 12.3 inches. The superior variant of the model will be having leather upholstery. The other trims will have fabric seats that will be made from recycled plastic.
