Sedans are a popular choice among families in India. The rising competition and entry of new models are creating tough competition in this segment. In fact, Sedan sales own a good amount of share in India’s total auto sales. Here’s a list of the top 5 sedans sold in the month of January 2022.
1. Maruti Dzire
Maruti Suzuki successfully sold 14,967 units of Swift Dzire in the month of January 2022. Yet, the company saw a decrease of -1.04% in the YoY sales percentage. Last year Maruti sold 15,125 units of Dzire. The Dzire is a wonderful sedan and a common choice among Indian families.
It also tops the cab sector as the number of online cab services is growing rapidly. Moreover, the Dzire features a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine. This motor comes integrated into a 5-speed manual or an AMT transmission setup. Furthermore, Maruti claims that the manual variant can provide a fuel efficiency of 23.26 kmpl while the AMT variant has an efficiency of 24.12 kmpl.
2. Honda Amaze
The Honda Amaze came in second place with a total sales of 5,395 units in January 2022. The Japanese automaker saw a decline of -1.50% in YoY sales. Previous year 5,477 units of Amaze were sold in January. Honda Amaze is another vehicle known for its features and design. Moreover, the high build quality of Honda’s vehicles can be seen in the Amaze.
The Amaze features two different engine variants 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Both units get a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox as transmission options. The petrol variant provides efficiency of 18.6 kmpl (MT) and of 18.3 kmpl (CVT). On the other hand, the diesel variant has a mileage of 24.7 kmpl (MT) and 21kmpl ( CVT).
3. Honda City
Another vehicle from Honda has secured third place in the sales chart. 3,950 units of Honda City were sold in January 2022. This resulted in a 7.72% increase in the YoY sales percentage. Moreover, the sales figure for Honda City in January 2021 was 3,667 units. The Honda City is a premium sedan from Honda and comes with best-in-class convenience features.
The City features two engines, 1.5-litre petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel motor. Furthermore, the i-VTEC petrol engine and the DOHC diesel unit are integrated into a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. Moreover, the petrol engine gets a CVT gearbox as optional.
4. Hyundai Aura
Hyundai sold 3,333 units of Aura in the month of January 2022. However, the automaker saw a decline of -20.3% in the YoY sales percentage. The total sales in January 2021 were 4,183 units. The Aura is Hyundai’s budget sedan that is placed under the Hyundai Verna.
The Hyundai Aura comes with 1 diesel engine, 2 petrol engines, and an optional CNG setup. Both Manual & Automatic transmission setups are available according to the variant and fuel type.
5. Tata Tigor
Tata sold 2,952 units of Tigor in January 2022. This resulted in a 46% increase in the YoY sales percentage. In the previous year, the homegrown automaker sold 2,025 units in January. Moreover, the Tata Tigor has a 4-star global NCAP safety rating for driver and passenger safety.
The Tigor has a Petrol Engine and an optional factory-fitted CNG kit. Both Manual & Automatic transmission setups are available. Furthermore, Tigor provides a mileage of 20.3 kmpl for the gasoline variant.
